The Digital Design and Delivery (DDD) division within the Ministry of Technology and Innovation (TI) leads the development of the next generation of digital public services for the GoA. DDD partners with other departments to deliver products, platforms and services that are better, faster, and easier, through modern user-centered agile processes. DDD offers potential candidates a unique opportunity to work on meaningful challenges that transform government and positively impact Albertans.  

The Platforms branch within DDD is accountable for supporting ministry programs through the planning, development, delivery and operations of user-centered common platform services. The branch builds and develops common platforms and data services that enable product teams to deliver working software that meets the needs of their users.

Role Responsibilities

The Platforms branch is looking for a DevOps Specialist. Reporting to the Manager, Technical Standards, the DevOps Specialist is responsible for overseeing the Government of Alberta’s (GoA) presence in the Apple App Store and Google Play Store.

This position manages the intake, review, approval, publishing, and maintenance processes for all mobile applications submitted for public release.

The responsibilities of this role include:

  • Apply advanced AI fluency by using generative and agentic tools for drafting, analysis, retrieval, and automation, with sound judgment to assess risk, accuracy, and sensitivity of outputs.
  • Apply process‑automation knowledge to support workflow automation, digital forms, and agent‑supported processes, translating technical change into clear, staff‑facing guidance.
  • Manage the Government of Alberta presence on the Apple App Store and Google Play, including administrative accounts, submissions, updates, removals, and vendor liaison.
  • Develop and maintain mobile app store submission standards, templates, and best‑practice guidance, and advise application owners on platform requirements.
  • Review mobile applications and metadata to ensure compliance with GoA standards, accessibility, privacy, security, and platform publishing policies.
  • Build, configure, and maintain Google Workspace and Microsoft 365 test environments to support platform testing and real‑world user scenarios.
  • Provide leadership, advice, and operational support to teams and branch leadership, contribute to planning and reporting, and act for the Manager as required.

 

To be successful in this position, you will demonstrate:

  • Strong knowledge of security, privacy, data management, and responsible information handling in a government context.
  • Ability to troubleshoot complex application, integration, and environment‑related issues.
  • Experience documenting, maintaining, and applying environment setup and configuration standards.
  • High digital literacy, including familiarity with agile practices and user‑centered testing approaches.
  • Effective and responsible use of approved AI tools to support documentation, analysis, issue triage, and administrative efficiency, with the ability to critically assess outputs for accuracy, accessibility, compliance, and appropriateness.

Qualifications

Requirements:

  • A university degree in a related field (e.g., Computer Science, Information Technology), supplemented by four (4) years of progressively responsible, related experience.
  • Familiarity with Apple App Store and Google Play Store publishing processes and requirements.
  • Strong understanding of mobile accessibility standards and assistive technologies.
  • Experience supporting the launch and ongoing maintenance of public‑facing mobile applications.
  • A cover letter clearly demonstrating relevant skills and competencies tailored to this position.

 

Equivalencies:

  • A related master’s degree and a minimum of two (2) years of related experience; or
  • A related two-year diploma and a minimum of six (6) years of related experience; or
  • A related one-year certificate and a minimum of seven (7) years of related experience.

 

Assets:

  • Knowledge of user experience (UX) design principles for mobile applications.
  • Knowledge of privacy and security practices related to mobile application development and publishing.
  • Proficiency in configuring and managing multi‑user, multi‑organization cloud environments.
  • Relevant certifications (e.g., Accessibility, Google Play Store / Workspace Administrator, Apple App Store, Microsoft 365 Administrator).
