Alberta Infrastructure designs, builds, manages, and maintains government-owned and operated facilities, and collaborates with other ministries to ensure that schools, hospitals and government facilities infrastructure meet the needs of Alberta’s population. The Ministry also provides accommodation services and manages a large portfolio of owned and leased facilities while maintaining fiscal accountability and optimizing value for Albertans.
The Corporate Projects Team supports the Property Management Branch in the operations and maintenance of more than 1,500 buildings across the Province of Alberta. Corporate Projects connects data between various systems, tools and processes to support efficient planning, provide data analytics, and contribute to informed decision making.

Role Responsibilities
Reporting to the Manager of Corporate Projects, the Data Specialist provides a strategic role in capital maintenance planning for government owned facilities. This position develops and maintains a comprehensive data management strategy to ensure the accuracy and completeness of facility maintenance data.
The Data Specialist enhances the capital maintenance planning process by ensuring executive managers have access to comprehensive strategic information to make decisions, and facility operations staff have a clear and efficient process to track maintenance requirements. This position acts as a key liaison between facility operations staff, maintenance advisors, business analysts, technical software consultants, and the Facility Evaluations team. This role is also responsible for the administration of software application(s), providing training and technical support to facility operations staff – including external property management contractors – and potentially supporting the migration of branch facility maintenance data to a new software application.
The primary responsibilities for the Data Specialist include, but are not limited to:
• Establish and implement data management policies and procedures to improve and maintain data quality to support the planning, prioritizing, and delivery of CMR projects
• Monitor and analyze maintenance data to identify trends and issues, and to propose opportunities for improvement to identified issues
• Create and maintain clear, organized, and efficient resources (i.e. eCourses), and provide coaching and professional support to facilities staff who are responsible for keeping facility maintenance data up to date
• Manage and administer application(s), including the coordination of technical software issues, and testing technical fixes in collaboration with software consultants and others as needed
Experience and/or knowledge of the following will be considered strong assets:
• Data management and data analysis
• Capital maintenance planning software (such as VFA), or related software
• Creation of eCourses and advanced use of Microsoft programs
• Construction and/or project delivery

Qualifications
Requirements: University graduation in computer information science, business administration, mathematics/statistics, engineering, political science, or a related field PLUS a minimum of four (4) years of related experience.
Equivalency: Directly related education or experience considered equivalent on the basis of: 1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or 1 year of experience for 1 year of education.
Assets:
• Graduate degree in a related field
• Experience with capital maintenance planning software (such as VFA), or related software
• Experience with creation of eCourses and advanced use of Microsoft programs
• Advanced knowledge of data management practices and data analysis
• Ability to continuously assess and identify opportunities to improve processes
