The Office of Statistics and Information (OSI) is Alberta's statistical resource and the Statistical Focal Point for Statistics Canada. Our mandate is to plan, promote, consolidate and develop social and economic statistics relating to Alberta. The office is responsible for publishing, investigating, and collaborating across the Government of Alberta (GoA) on questions relating to social or economic conditions and issues.

Role Responsibilities
Are you an experienced data architect who enjoys building powerful, scalable systems that support public service? As a Data Solutions Analyst with the Alberta Office of Statistics and Information (OSI), you will be involved in the design and evolution of enterprise data systems that support decision-making across government. Your work will directly support policies and programs that impact Albertans every day.
Reporting to the Manager, Data Services, the Data Solutions Analyst builds and maintains data pipelines, strengthens analytics infrastructure, and turns complex data into insights senior leaders can rely on.
Data Pipeline & Infrastructure
• Design, build, and maintain scalable data pipelines to support growing data volume and complexity
• Develop and maintain ETL/ELT processes and API integrations
• Clean, structure, and integrate data from multiple internal and external sources into the OSI data warehouse
• Maintain metadata and ensure data quality, integrity, and accessibility
• Document data processes and workflows for audit, continuity, and knowledge sharing
Data Security & Governance
• Implement and oversee data security controls to protect sensitive government information
• Administer OSI’s secure data analysis lab, including access controls and audit processes
• Manage data-sharing agreements and ensure compliance with privacy and security requirements
Analytics & Decision Support
• Build data tools, reports, and visualizations that support policy, program, and resource decisions
• Support data scientists and analysts by enabling efficient access to clean, well-structured data
• Deploy analytical models into production environments and monitor performance
• Enhance OSI’s website with interactive data products and visual tools
Stakeholder Support & Collaboration
• Act as a subject matter expert on data infrastructure and data availability
• Work with internal and external partners to support data needs and resolve technical issues
• Represent OSI on cross-ministry data initiatives and infrastructure projects

Qualifications
Requirement:
A university degree in computer science, Information Technology, Applied Mathematics, Statistics, or a related field plus a minimum 4 years of experience working with SQL (advanced SQL required; NoSQL is an asset).
Experience & Technical Skills
• Hands-on experience with data pipelines, ETL/ELT processes, and data warehousing
• Hands-on experience with SQL Server, including T-SQL, SSIS, SQL Server Agent, and SSAS Tabular model
• Experience working with big data platforms
• Experience working with large, complex, and unstructured datasets
• Experience using visualization tools such as Power BI
• Strong understanding of data modeling, data integration, and metadata management
• Proven ability to work with business users to define data needs
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
Assets
• Experience with Cloudera Data Platform
• Experience building or supporting Apache NiFi, HDFS, and Hive / Hue environments
• Knowledge of Government of Alberta data, privacy, and security policies
• Experience supporting cross-functional teams in a fast-paced environment
