Ministry of Advanced Education
Advanced Education’s Data Management and Governance (DMG) unit aims to improve the ministry’s data maturity, as follows:
- Develop, implement, and evolve and enterprise-wide data management and governance.
- Develop, implement, and evolve stewardship of the Department's major administrative datasets.
- Collect and provide oversight of key administrative data from the advanced learning system.

As Data Infrastructure Lead, you will design and optimize enterprise-wide data infrastructure that powers digital services and business intelligence across the department.
About the Role
Reporting to the Manager – Data Operations, you will:
- Build and maintain data pipelines, cloud storage, and data warehouses.
- Assess existing infrastructure and develop a roadmap for improvement.
- Implement orchestration platforms and automation tools for reliable data movement.
- Organize structured and unstructured data into analyst-friendly formats.
- Establish standards and best practices for data infrastructure development.
This role combines technical expertise with leadership and communication skills to advance Advanced Education’s data management maturity.
Key Responsibilities
Data Infrastructure Development
- Design and implement pipelines from multiple sources to cloud storage and data warehouse.
- Automate error reporting and maintain tooling libraries for quality assurance.
- Support transformation tools like DBT for centralized data operations.
Collaboration & Knowledge Sharing
- Mentor team members on infrastructure skills and validate pipeline functionality.
- Crosstrain with data modelling and reporting colleagues for business continuity.
- Assist in developing frameworks, governance processes, and hiring plans.
Planning & Standards
- Establish infrastructure standards and documentation.
- Prioritize development work based on business needs and technical dependencies.
- Maintain a roadmap for infrastructure improvements and build a resource library.

Qualifications
Applicants must have a University graduation (in computer science or a related discipline plus four years related experience; or equivalent as below:
Equivalency:
A related two-year diploma in computer technology or a related discipline from a recognized postsecondary institution and six years related experience; or a related one year certificate from a recognized post-secondary institution and seven years related experience
These skills and experience are essential:
- Strong knowledge of data scripting languages Python, Data Build Tool (DBT), and Linux.
- Experience using version control systems: branching, writing and saving code, creating pull requests, doing pull requests for code reviews, etc.
- Knowledge of orchestration, cloud hosting and storage, and cloud database management, including the ability to connect data sources to a cloud storage target and a data warehouse in a customized way.
- Experience developing and managing process logging, messaging and alert systems.
- Advanced working knowledge of database languages (SQL) and experience working with relational databases, query authoring (SQL) as well as working familiarity with a variety of databases.
- Strong analytic skills related to working with unstructured data (JSON-style data).
The following practical experience is desirable:
- Agile delivery approaches such as DataOps, CI/CD, or DevOps
- Data modelling
- Visualization tools such as PowerBI, SSRS, Tableau
