The creative team inside the Government of Alberta’s communications and marketing department is searching for a passionate and energetic advertising copywriter to help develop compelling campaigns and materials that connect with Albertans in meaningful ways. 

If you have a solid portfolio that demonstrates your ability to use words to engage audiences and compel them to act, then you might just be the person we’re looking for. 

 

Role Responsibilities

As the successful candidate, you’ll be called upon to write…a lot. You’ll need to think fast and be able to create powerful copy that delivers results under tight timelines. Working with other creatives, you’ll be a big part of developing campaigns and materials that inform Albertans about the programs and initiatives that impact their lives.

What you’ll do: 

 

  • Write compelling copy that’s strategic, creative and effective for a variety of projects from advertising campaigns to collateral, videos, and more. 
  • Brainstorm and collaborate with other creative team mates to develop materials that engage minds and inspire action.
  • Write long and short form copy, powerful headlines and body copy. 
  • Surgically edit and proof materials to ensure materials are effective and error-free.
  • Interpret creative briefs and identify golden opportunities to create compelling connections with Albertans.
  • Explore creative opportunities for each project and develop multiple options for discussion and consideration.
  • Write creative strategy statements, rationale, and presentations.
  • Present your work and the work of others like a champ.
  • Review and refine copy created by others.
  • Demonstrate impeccable attention to detail in everything you do. 
  • Meet deadlines without fail.
     

Candidates should have:
 

  • Demonstrated prowess in copywriting for all advertising mediums (print, radio, OOH, TV/video, online display). 
  • Passion for writing with an excellent portfolio of work.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines under pressure.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Strong editorial, proofreading, and writing skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Experience with social media and content marketing.
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office products.

Qualifications

Requirement:
 

  • University graduation in Communications, English, Marketing field plus 2 years progressively responsible related experience; or


Equivalency:

Directly related education or experience considered on the basis of:

 

  • 1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or
  • 1 year of experience for 1 year of education.

  • Experience working in an advertising agency isn’t required but would be beneficial
