Communications and Public Engagement (CPE) is the Government of Alberta’s full-service communications, public relations, and marketing department.

CPE expert staff delivers specialized services across the spectrum of communications and marketing – from research, design, writing and social media, to event coordination, issues management, digital communications, advertising, and public consultation. Role Responsibilities

The creative copywriter is responsible for developing and delivering creative products for a high volume of campaigns and other creative and social media assignments, often under tight timelines. The position must ensure quality of product while meeting all creative deadlines and aligning with government brand standards.

As part of the CPE creative team, this position works with a high degree of independence and in a collaborative manner with designers and digital content specialists to ensure objectives and deadlines are met, and materials are aligned with government brand standards.

What you will do: 

 

  • Write compelling copy for communications and marketing materials covering all mediums (print, radio, video, OOH, social, online display, and collateral)
  • Proofread materials to ensure accuracy and consistency, and compliance with the GoA voice, tone and style guide
  • Interpret creative briefs, identify and develop themes for creative development
  • Explore creative options and develop creative concepts for consideration
  • Write creative strategy statements, rationale, and presentations
  • Present creative concepts to colleagues and clients
  • Review copy produced by branch colleagues and suggest edits for brevity and compliance with GoA brand, voice and tone
  • Partner closely with designers, digital content specialists, and communication advisor

 

Candidates should have:

 

  • Demonstrated prowess in copywriting for all advertising mediums
  • A strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office products
  • Strong editorial, proofreading, and writing skills
  • Familiarity with keyword research
  • Experience with SEO copywriting best practices
  • Experience with social media and content marketing
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines under pressure
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment
  • Passion for writing with an excellent portfolio of work

Qualifications

University graduation in a related field plus 2 years progressively responsible related experience.

Equivalency (directly related education or experience considered on the basis of):

 

  • 1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or
  • 1 year of experience for 1 year of education.
