Correctional Service Worker 1: $2,538.84 to $3,281.52 bi-weekly ($66,263 - $85,647/year) 
            Correctional Service Worker 2: $2,887.86 to $3,741.28 bi-weekly ($75,373 - $97,647/year)

Role Responsibilities

We are looking for individuals who have the experience of working with youth and possess exceptional communication and decision-making skills.  If you are interested in youth program delivery and coordination, and have knowledge of placements and classification processes, this will be a great opportunity for you!  

As a Correctional Service Worker, you will be responsible for case management, and may interview, classify, and place young persons in safe and appropriate housing. You will also be required to resolve day to day issues, respond to questions/complaints, provide guidance, and distribute resources. You will need to be resourceful and creative in your problem solving.  Duties may include coordination and facilitation of Centre programs, keeping accurate records, classification, and placement of youth and liaising with both internal and external service providers as well as daily living unit routines. Excellent communication, interpersonal, organizational skills, and an ability to work independently are necessary.

Superior ability to assess and interview young persons, an in depth understanding of the different cultures and programs on each unit as well as excellent decision-making abilities are necessary for managing youth with a variety of safety and security issues. Computer proficiency and knowledge of Centre policies and procedures is required.

Qualifications

Correctional Service Worker 1: Two-year diploma in a related field (Criminal Justice, Correction Studies) plus two years of related experience (Correctional Peace Officer, Correctional Peace Officer Supervisor, Corrections Officer), or equivalent as described:
•A related one-year certificate and three years of directly related experience. 
•Directly related education on the basis of one year of education for one year of experience; or one year of experience for one year of education.

Correctional Service Worker 2: University graduation in a related field (Criminal Justice, Correction Studies) plus 2 years direct related experience (Correctional Service Worker, Case management experience ) ; or equivalent as described: 
•Two-year diploma in a related field plus 4 years related experience; OR
•Completion of the in-service Criminal Justice Certificate plus 5 years related experience.

Special Requirements: 
•Must be physically able to perform position duties. 
•Must hold a valid driver’s license.

Preference will be given to candidates:
•Previous experience supervising or managing young persons
•Experience working in a correctional centre
•Working knowledge of the Youth Criminal Justice Act

Notes

This posting will be used to fill, one full time permanent position and one Temp Salaried position (Six Months) at the Edmonton Young Offender Centre. Overtime may be required.

Successful candidates are required to work shift work including days/evenings and midnight shifts as a job requirement.  

Final candidates for this position will be required to provide a Fingerprint Based Criminal Record Check and a Vulnerable Sector Check . Any costs associated with obtaining the required documents/checks as noted or interview travel expenses, will be the responsibility of the candidate.
