This position resides in the Surgery Unit within the Cancer and Surgical Services Branch of the Acute Care Division.

Role Responsibilities

Clinical Specialist, Surgery:

 

The Clinical Specialist, Surgery, in the Acute Care Division helps develop policies, standards, and legislation to ensure safe and effective acute care operations. This role involves implementing policies, enforcing standards, and researching innovative solutions for future demands like an aging population, patient flow, capacity and wait time challenges.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Information, Analysis, and Advice: Support policy development with research, analysis, and presentation. Consult on legislation, policies, and standards, and participate in emergency management projects.
  • Project Management: Develop and execute strategic project plans.
  • Content Development: Create tailored content for policy development, including briefing notes, letters, and memos.
  • Issues Management: Proactively manage issues to support policy development.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Consult with internal and external stakeholders to assist in program and policy development.

Qualifications

Clinical Specialist, Surgery:

A University degree in a clinical health field (e.g. Nursing, Physiotheraphy, Occupational Therapy).


Current registration in good standing with an Alberta professional college with four (4) years of clinical experience in surgical care in Alberta.


Preference will be given to candidates with experience in:

  • Strong working knowledge of acute care operations, including specific knowledge of surgery operations (depending on role).
  • Understanding of government structure, legislative frameworks, and the Alberta health care system.
  • Sound knowledge of health care providers and their roles.
  • Experience with policy development in multi-stakeholder environments.
  • In-depth knowledge of health system priorities, acute care delivery, and relevant political, economic, and global issues.

  • 8:15AM to 4:30PM (Monday to Friday)

 

All positions are located in Edmonton or Calgary.

 

Candidates with lesser qualifications may be considered at a lower classification and salary. This competition may be used to fill future roles at the same or lower classifications.
