Role Responsibilities

Powering Alberta’s digital backbone—where scale, security, and resilience meet.

 

Reporting to the Manager, this position is responsible for the design, delivery, and lifecycle management of enterprise‑class IMT services that underpin the Government of Alberta’s critical operations. The position provides technical analysis, implementation, operational support, and service ownership across complex on‑premises and cloud environments, ensuring secure, reliable, and high‑performing network and infrastructure services.

 

As a subject matter expert, this position operates independently within a team of technical analysts, applying IT service management practices (Incident, Problem, Change, Project, Service, and Capacity Management) to solve complex challenges and deliver outcomes that meet stakeholder expectations. The position also provides acting manager support when required, participates in on‑call rotations, and maintains the appropriate enhanced or top‑secret security clearance.

 

 

Responsibilities:
Some of the responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Service Ownership & Technical Leadership
    Act as SME and service owner for enterprise network services, overseeing full lifecycle delivery, operations, and continuous improvement.
  • Operations, Change & Risk Management
    Plan, implement, and govern service changes while proactively managing risks, incidents, and service performance.
  • Technical Support & Service Delivery
    Provide advanced operational support, on‑call coverage, and continuous maintenance to ensure stable, secure, and high‑performing services.
  • Project & Initiative Leadership
    Lead or contribute to projects and agile initiatives, defining technical requirements and delivering outcomes aligned with ITIL standards.
  • Reporting, Documentation & Standards
    Develop, maintain, and enhance system reporting, documentation, and administrative standards to support service transparency and governance.
  • Stakeholder, Vendor & Team Collaboration
    Partner with clients, vendors, and internal teams to resolve issues, improve services, and meet business objectives.
  • Mentorship & Workforce Development
    Provide leadership, mentoring, and task assignment to junior analysts, supporting skill development and team capacity.
  • Continuous Innovation & Readiness
    Stay current with emerging technologies, contributing to service modernization, testing, and adoption across the GoA environment.

Qualifications

Requirements:

  • University graduation in Computer Science, Information Technology or a related field.
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience in Networking.

Equivalencies:

  • A related two-year diploma in computer technology or a related discipline from a recognized post-secondary institution and six (6) years related experience; or
  • A related one-year certificate from a recognized post-secondary institution and seven (7) years related experience.

Assets:

  • Thorough knowledge of computer science concepts and methodologies across software, infrastructure, networking, systems management, and enterprise platforms.
  • Strong hands‑on experience with network routing protocols (OSPF, BGP, EIGRP), SD‑WAN technologies, and enterprise network architecture design, implementation, and full-service lifecycle management.
  • Great understanding of remote access technologies such as SSE solutions, client agent-based VPN such as Cisco Secure Client, and similar technologies.
  • Experienced with supporting a Wireless implementation, including diagnosing connectivity and performance concerns.
  • Demonstrated experience designing, implementing, and maintaining enterprise‑scale network services, including responsibility for new service development and lifecycle oversight.
  • Proven ability to plan, develop, and coordinate projects at the departmental or cross‑ministry level while meeting timelines and delivery expectations.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment, lead initiatives, mentor junior staff, and operate successfully under deadline constraints.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills to explain technical concepts, consult with stakeholders, and provide clear guidance and recommendations.

Term of Employment: Permanent, Full-time position

Hours of Work: 7.25 hours daily / 36.25 weekly – Monday to Friday

Location: Edmonton Or Calgary
