Role Responsibilities
Be part of a high-impact team that powers the Government of Alberta’s critical network infrastructure and digital services at scale.
The Technical Services Unit is responsible for managing and evolving the Government of Alberta’s enterprise IMT infrastructure, supporting servers, networks, cloud platforms, security, and shared IT services across the province. Operating within hybrid data centres and cloud environments (Azure, AWS, GCP), the team enables over 7,000 servers, 1,500+ applications, and critical services relied on by ministries and Albertans.
Reporting to the Team Lead, Network Operations, in this position you will support the design, implementation, and ongoing operations of network and infrastructure services. Working alongside experienced analysts, you will contribute to service delivery using ITIL principles, support large-scale enterprise environments, and assist in resolving incidents and implementing changes to ensure reliable and secure services.
Responsibilities:
Some of your responsibilities in this position will include:
- Provide information technology development, maintenance and support services to clients by:

- Supporting the lifecycle of network services.
- Assisting with change implementation.
- Completing tasks under senior guidance.
- Supporting issue resolution and service improvements.
- Coordinating with vendors and ensuring standards.
- Contributing to team delivery and client service.

- Troubleshooting application and system issues.
- Performing routine maintenance and upgrades.
- Following established processes and standards.
- Assisting with documentation and testing.

Qualifications
Requirements:
- A related two-year diploma in Computer Sciences, Information Technology or a related discipline from a recognized post secondary institution.
- No experience required.
Equivalencies: Equivalencies will be considered:
- A related one (1) year certification in computer technology or a related discipline from a recognized postsecondary institution and one (1) year of related experience; or
- An industry-recognized certification from a credible source, such as ISC2, may be used in place of the 1-year certificate.
Assets:
- Thorough knowledge of computer science concepts and methodologies (software, infrastructure, programming, network and mainframe products, and systems management).
- Knowledge of network routing protocols specifically related to (OSPF, BGP, EIGRP), as well as knowledge of SDWAN technology.
- Experienced or familiarity with Routers, Switches, WAPs, Excel, Automation or Service Now are vital assets.
- Knowledge of Government IT policies and legislation and an understanding of its application on related assignments.
- Understanding of project management concepts and processes.
- The ability to work well in a team environment, take direction, mentor junior employees and work within deadline constraints is essential.
- Strong communication skills are required to explain IT concepts, consult with stakeholders and provide guidance.
