Role Responsibilities
Reporting directly to the Director, French Education Branch, the Curriculum Consultant, French Immersion Language Arts and Literature (FILAL) manages complex curriculum projects.
The Curriculum Consultant, French Language Arts and Literature uses their advanced knowledge of French language learning to lead projects that support the operations and overall functioning of the branch with regard to French language curriculum.
This person uses their research, analysis, and project management abilities as well as their high level of bilingualism to produce curriculum and supporting documents.
This role involves collaborating, gathering data and information to support decision- making, and the development of documents that support the work of the Branch.
The Curriculum Consultant, French Language Curriculum leads the development and continuous improvement of high-quality Kindergarten to Grade 12 (K-12) curriculum that is in alignment with The Guiding Framework for the Design and Development of Kindergarten to Grade 12 Provincial Curriculum (The Guiding Framework).
Role Responsibilities Continued
The Curriculum Consultant, FILAL will:
- Contribute to high-quality curriculum informed by current research.
- Research, analyze, and synthesize information from a variety of sources to support curriculum development.
- Establish and maintain strong communication and working relationships with stakeholders to ensure timely and accurate information flow and identification of issues.
The Curriculum Consultant, French Immersion Language Arts and Literature (FILAL) will be responsible for the following key activities in the ministry/branch:
Lead and support the development of curriculum for French Immersion Language Arts and Literature:
- Anticipate the curriculum requirements required for the future.
- Actively monitor learning outcomes and work toward their continual improvement.
- Lead and support the maintenance and development of high-quality curriculum.
- Provide specialized advice to support the development of new curriculum and monitor its continued use.
- Synthesize and summarize researched content from a variety of sources (e.g., scholarly peer-reviewed academic journals, administrative publications, government studies, books, jurisdictional reviews) to support curriculum development.
- Provide information and supports to stakeholders and other education partners regarding curriculum.
- Provide research-informed advice to leadership regarding curriculum content and sequencing of learning.
- Provide a seamless transition in curriculum from grade to grade, from level to level and from senior high to post-secondary studies and the workplace.

Qualifications
A Master's Degree in a related field plus five years related experience or equivalent as described below.
Equivalency: Bachelor's Degree in a related field plus seven years of related experience.
This position requires the following expertise, skills, abilities and/or certification in the following areas:
- Valid Alberta Teaching Certificate or equivalent.
- Subject matter expertise in French language acquisition/learning in French immersion.
- Fluency in both French and English and a strong ability to comfortably work, speak and write both in French and English.
- Teaching and leadership experience at the school, jurisdictional and/or provincial level, including significant experience teaching French (French Language Arts) in French immersion schools.
- Knowledge of issues, trends and current research regarding curriculum and French language learning in the French immersion context.
- Sound project management skills, organizational skills, the ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment and a high level of comfort working in an evolving digital environment.
- Initiative, flexibility, and strong problem-solving skills.
Rôle Spécialiste en curriculum de Français immersion et littérature (FIL)
Se rapportant à la directrice de l’Éducation de langue française, le ou la Spécialiste en curriculum de langue française gère de complexes projets de curriculum pour appuyer l’apprentissage du français au sein des programmes d’immersion française.
Le ou la spécialiste en curriculum de Français immersion et littérature utilise ses connaissances avancées de l’apprentissage de la langue française en contexte de l’immersion pour gérer des projets qui soutiennent les opérations et le fonctionnement général de la direction en ce qui concerne les curriculums de langue française. Cette personne utilise ses capacités de recherche, d'analyse, d’écriture en français et de gestion de projet pour produire des programmes d'études de FIL.
Ce rôle demande la collaboration et la collecte de données et d'informations pour soutenir la prise de décision et l'élaboration de documents qui soutiennent le travail de la direction.
Le ou la Spécialiste en curriculum de Français immersion et littérature dirige et soutient l'élaboration, la mise en œuvre et l'amélioration continue de curriculum de haute qualité de la maternelle à la 12e année (M à 12) qui est conforme au Cadre directeur pour la conception et l'élaboration du curriculum provincial de la maternelle à la 12e année (Cadre directeur).
Le ou la Spécialiste en curriculum de Français immersion et littérature sera responsable des activités clés suivantes au sein du ministère/de la direction:
Diriger et soutenir l'élaboration de programmes d'études pour le français langue seconde, la francisation ou d'autres programmes d'apprentissage de la langue française, selon les besoins:
- Anticiper les besoins en matière de programmes d'études pour l'avenir.
- Surveiller activement les résultats d'apprentissage et travailler à leur amélioration continue.
- Diriger et soutenir le maintien et l’élaboration de curriculum de haute qualité.
- Fournir des conseils spécialisés pour soutenir la mise en œuvre du nouveau curriculum.
- Synthétiser et résumer le contenu de la recherche à partir de diverses sources (par exemple, des revues universitaires, des publications administratives, des études gouvernementales, des livres, des examens juridictionnels) afin de soutenir le développement du curriculum.
- Fournir des informations et un soutien aux parties prenantes et aux autres partenaires de l'éducation en ce qui concerne le curriculum.
- Fournir aux responsables des conseils fondés sur la recherche concernant le contenu du programme et la séquence des apprentissages.
- Assurer une transition transparente du curriculum d'une année scolaire à l'autre, d'un niveau à l'autre et du secondaire deuxième cycle aux études postsecondaires et au monde du travail.
Compétences
Une maitrise dans un domaine connexe plus cinq ans l’expérience pertinente ou l’équivalent tel que décrit ci-dessous.
Équivalence: Baccalauréat dans un domaine connexe plus sept ans d’expérience pertinente.
Ce poste exige les compétences et habiletés et/ou les certifications suivantes:
- Brevet d’enseignement de l’Alberta ou l’équivalent.
- Expertise dans l’acquisition/l’apprentissage de la langue française dans le contexte de l’immersion française.
- Maitrise du français et de l'anglais et capacité à travailler, parler et écrire en français et en anglais.
- Expérience en enseignement et leadeurship au niveau de l’école, de l’autorité scolaire et/ou de la province, incluant une expérience significative en enseignement en immersion française.
- Connaissance des défis, des tendances et des recherches actuelles sur le curriculum et l’apprentissage du français en immersion.
- Solides compétences organisationnelles et de gestion de projets, capacité à travailler de façon autonome et de façon collaborative en équipe, et très grande aisance à travailler dans un milieu numérique en évolution.
- Esprit d'initiative, flexibilité et solides compétences en matière de résolution de problèmes.

Notes
This is a full-time position working 36.25 hours per week, Monday to Friday.
Working location is Edmonton or Calgary. A hybrid work arrangement (work from home up to two days per week) will be considered.
