Role Responsibilities

The Tax and Revenue Administration (TRA) division is looking for an Analyst, Business Intelligence and Data Analytics to join our audit team.  We are an enthusiastic, goal-orientated and knowledgeable team – join us!

The Analyst, Business Intelligence and Data Analytics reports to the Manager, Audit Training in the Audit branch. The Analyst leads the data and reporting strategies and projects for the Audit branch of the Tax and Revenue Administration (TRA). This position develops strategic and tactical plans for reporting and oversees development and maintenance of dashboards. The Analyst also ensures the efficiency, effectiveness and integrity of data and assists auditors, as required, in receiving, and preparing data from tax and royalty payers for further analysis. The incumbent also uses their extensive experience with different analytics tools and methods to support evidence-based decisions making and program administration.

The position provides rigorous, high-quality data, research, evaluation, and analytics to executive and senior management in the branch. It also provides program delivery to enable data-driven, evidence-informed strategic decision-making for the purposes of strategic planning, workload development, efficient audits, evaluation, continuous improvement, forecasting, service delivery, as well as resource allocation.

The position provides support and guidance for a variety of audit branch activities in the areas of data analytics, and compliance improvement. The incumbent implements strategies and procedures to attain long term Audit objectives and works collaboratively with business intelligence colleagues in other branches on large projects or initiatives. The Analyst will have multiple projects underway at any given time, ranging from small to large scale initiatives.

The position plays a significant role in providing guidance to staff on key initiatives related to modernization of processes, improved utilization of data while supporting auditors with change management and ensuring voluntary compliance is maintained or advanced through improved use of data analytics techniques and other emerging compliance best practices.

You must be able to prioritize and have excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills, and be able to articulate and present complex issues to a variety of stakeholders. Strong analytical and interpretative skills as well as attention to detail and accuracy will assist you in this role. The ability to build collaborative environments by establishing positive working relationships and managing multiple assignments simultaneously in support of branch objectives is key.

Qualifications

Required:


Education


A university degree, in business analytics, mathematics, statistical sciences, data science, computer science, engineering, or a related field, involving quantitative research methodologies, data management, to provide direction to management and professional staff conducting advanced statistical analysis design and reporting. Equivalencies may be considered.

Experience

Experience utilizing leadership, organization, and planning skills supplemented by experience in client relations is required. Project management training is an asset. A minimum of four (4) years of experience is required in:

      • At least 2 years of experience in data analytics.
      • At least 2 years of experience with predictive analytics, statistical techniques and developing data models.


A background which demonstrates complex problem-solving, operational planning, and the ability to manage multiple priorities and projects at the same time is essential.

Experience is also required in:

      • Building business intelligence and mapping solutions (e.g., dynamic reports in Power BI, Tableau, or similar).
      • Creating executive-level presentations for the purpose of decision making.
      • Leading professional staff on cross-functional teams to achieve deliverables on branch-wide initiatives.
      • Leadership role(s) with proven success in managing complex issues and applying an integrated approach to project delivery.
      • Presenting strategies and plans, and providing advice, options papers, and status reports to management team on branch-wide initiatives.

      • Analytical and extraction languages (e.g., SAS, SQL, DAX, R, Python) to write computer programs to extract and manipulate data.
