The Legal Services Division of the Ministry of Justice supports the Minister in providing legal advice to the Premier and Cabinet. Role Responsibilities

Reporting to the Manager of Business Operations, the Business Analyst plays a key role in driving operational excellence within the Legal Services Division. This position supports the delivery of high-quality legal services by enhancing systems, streamlining processes, and improving overall operational effectiveness.

 

Working closely with internal stakeholders and external vendors, the Business Analyst is responsible for analyzing, designing, and integrating business management solutions for critical legal systems, including eDiscovery, case management, time tracking, and document management platforms. The role requires a strategic mindset and a strong grasp of IT advancements to ensure solutions meet the evolving needs of all Legal Services teams. Through leadership in project planning and execution, the Business Analyst helps ensure that systems and processes are continuously optimized and aligned with both divisional and organizational objectives - ultimately strengthening the quality, efficiency, and responsiveness of legal services.

 

In this position you will be responsible for:

  • Collaborate with stakeholders and vendors to enhance legal applications and processes through analysis, documentation, training, testing, and continuous improvement.
  • Coordinate with vendors to support and maintain system operations, manage upgrades and issues, and ensure documentation of system knowledge.
  • Support reporting, business intelligence, and data integrity by generating KPI reports, creating ad hoc reports, querying databases, and developing data quality checks.
  • Contribute to strategic planning, policy development, and team effectiveness by leading projects, engaging stakeholders, and driving operational efficiency.
  • Lead change initiatives, including business process re-engineering by facilitating stakeholder engagement, evaluating solutions, and applying process modeling to drive efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Drive project success and change management by defining scope, engaging stakeholders, monitoring progress, and delivering end-user training to support continuous improvement in legal service delivery.
  • Assisting in monitoring system performance, collecting audit related documentation and coordiationion of the disater recovery exersise to ensure that daily on-line activities are efficiently carried out.

Qualifications

Requirements:

University degree in a related field, such as Business, Computer Science, Information Technology or a related field plus a minimum of two (2) years related experience.

 

Equivalencies:

  • A related two-year diploma and a minimum of four (4) years of related experience; or
  • A related one-year certificate and a minimum of five (5) years of related experience; or
  • A minimum of six (6) years of related experience.

 

Assets:

  • Experience collaborating with and liaising between diverse stakeholder groups, including technical teams, vendors, and end users.
  • Knowledge of change management principles and their application in system or process improvement initiatives.
  • Hands-on experience with supporting systems and workflows, including configuration, support, or implementation.
  • Experience with an eDiscovery system is considered an asset
  • Experience working in a public sector or legal services environment is considered an asset.
  • Analytics, SQL and database experience is considered an asset.
