Role Responsibilities

The Business Analyst position is critical to ongoing day-to-day operational support of business area and applications that ensure core functions of Alberta Health are running smoothly with no impact to external clients or internal business areas. This position will also support project based work, including key projects Alberta Health has committed to implementing, such as Health Card Modernization, Mainframe Modernization, Schedule of Medical Benefits, Primary Care Physician Compensation Model, Blended Capitation Implementation, and other ministry priorities. 

Working within the Health Information Systems Division and reporting to the Manager, the Business Analyst duties include: 

  • Planning and coordinating deliverables from analysis through to implementation
  • Gathering and documenting business requirements
  • Validating design specifications and ensuring all Alberta Health standards are met
  • Researching and supporting resolution of business process and policy issues 


The Business Analyst must demonstrate leadership skills and experience working with diverse stakeholder groups, along with proactive problem-solving skills to deliver effective business solutions. Strengths include critical thinking, analytical, problem solving, systems thinking, negotiation, written, oral and facilitation skills. The Business Analyst must also demonstrate the ability to manage multiple tasks that will assist in handling shifting priorities. The role will require you to have an energetic approach in seeing tasks through to completion to ensure quality services are delivered with positive business results.

Qualifications

A University Degree in Business Administration, Computer Science or in a related field supplemented by a minimum of two (2) years of progressively responsible related experience in an IT focused business analyst role is required.

Required experience includes:

  • Information systems business analysis 
  • Project management
  • Operational support and Change Management
  • Proficiency with MS Office Suite 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills


Preference will be given to individuals with:

  • Work experience in a large or public organization
  • Understanding of system development lifecycle
  • Experience working with health systems, data and analytics


The following experience is considered an asset

  • Business Analyst and/or Project Management Certification 
  • Experience in working with large mainframe and/or Web-based applications
  • Familiarity with various Health regulations including but not limited to: Health Information Act, Health Insurance Premiums Regulation, Alberta Health Care Insurance Act, etc.

  • 1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or

Notes

This posting will be used to fill two (2) permanent Business Analyst positions at the Program Services 3 Market Adjustment classification. 

Hours of Work:
36.25 hours per week (full time)

Location:
Working location is ATB Place North Tower, 10025 Jasper Avenue, Edmonton, AB T5J 1V1. 

This position requires working full time from the office for the initial 3 to 6 months. After that, there will be an option to qualify for a hybrid work arrangement (in accordance with GOA policy).

Other information: 
Candidates may be required to complete a written assignment. 
 
Final candidates will be required to undergo a security screening.
