Role

The Government of Alberta, Technical Services and Procurement Branch (TSPB) of Alberta Infrastructure is currently looking for a Building Energy Engineer to join our busy team in Edmonton. If you are looking for a challenging yet rewarding opportunity, look no further and apply!

 

TSPB provides a wide range of professional and technical support as well as expertise for the technical standards, planning, design, construction, renovation, commissioning, post-occupancy review, operation and maintenance of government owned and funded facilities, as well as partnering with research institutions and industry to develop and introduce new technology. The branch also develops and maintains project standards, tools and best practices for the ministry.

 

The Procurement section drives to maximize value and minimize risk for Alberta Infrastructure projects by championing leading class procurement practices and delivering strategic advice for the benefit of the Ministry, our stakeholders, and all Albertans.

 

Reporting to the Senior Sustainability Specialist, this position provides technical expertise to stakeholders to optimize the design for energy performance and reduced carbon emissions. This accounts for the stakeholders’ concerns and restrictions of project budgets. Lessons learned assist with the ongoing development of standards.

 

The main responsibilities for the Building Energy Engineer are (but not limited to)

  • Conduct design reviews based on the Technical Design Requirements for Alberta Infrastructure facilities 
  • Participate in the project development process to provide guidance on energy target goal setting for projects
  • Advise on the proposed upgrades to the existing facilities in Alberta Infrastructure’s portfolio
  • Act as a resource from the project business case, project design and facility operation
  • Provide input to policy drafts, briefings, position papers, background material and reports identifying important issues

Qualifications

 

Minimum Requirements

  • A 4-year Bachelor of Science in Engineering degree PLUS 5 years of specialized experience in building energy modeling including experience with energy modeling software such as DOE2, eQUEST, IES and/or EnergyPlus.
  • Registered as a P. Eng. with APEGA with good standing

 

Other Requirements:

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in building envelope commissioning or design
  • Strong technical competence and working knowledge of other engineering and architectural disciplines related to building energy
  • Knowledge of existing and upcoming building energy codes and other relevant policies, acts and legislation
  • Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED), GA, AP or LEED AP BD+C

 

Assets:

  • Experience conducting ASHRAE level 1 and 2 energy audits
  • Experience writing technical reports
  • Experience interpreting and explaining highly technical data for a variety of clients

Salary

$3,044.75 to $4,215.69 bi-weekly ($79,467 - $110,029 yearly).

A salary review is in progress and may result in this salary being increased on September 1, 2023

Hours of Work:  36.25 hours per week, Monday to Friday 8:15 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

 

Term of Employment:
Full-Time, Permanent
