Role
Reporting to the Bridge Preservation Specialist, the Bridge Management Engineer will support the Department's bridge management activities. This includes maintaining and developing standards and guidelines for bridge management practices that support development of annual bridge construction and maintenance program for the provincial highway system.
This position is a key role in the development and maintenance of bridge management standards and guidelines. The incumbent provides technical support to asset management and project delivery staff as well as those applying these standards and guidelines. The Bridge Management Engineer also plays a role in coordinating bridge management activities while ensuring consistency across the bridge inventory and inspection system
The main responsibilities of the Bridge Management Engineer are (but not limited to):
- Developing and maintaining guidelines for bridge data components of TIMS
- Participating in enhancements to the Department's bridge management systems including business case development, specifications, user acceptance testing and quality assurance
- Managing and maintaining standards for engineering analysis used in identifying bridge needs and optimal work activities
- Establishing standards and guidelines for activities involved in the life cycle of a bridge including inspection, maintenance, assessment and rehabilitation
- Providing system analysis for annual reporting including inventory snapshot results and system performance reporting
- Coordinating regional updates to the bridge strategy / mastersheet database to facilitate annual data entry for bridge replacement and rehabilitation work activities into the TIMS Rationalization and Optimization Decision Application (RODA)
Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering supplemented by a minimum of 5 years of directly related experience in bridge engineering
- Registered or eligible to be registered as a professional member of APEGA
- Knowledge of bridge components (inventory), inspection practices and life cycle phases (assessment, design, program, construct, inspect, maintain, rehabilitate and replace)
- Analytical skills in bridge condition prediction, functional evaluation, strategy development and economic analysis
Desired:
- A Master’s Degree in bridge engineering or infrastructure asset management would be an asset.
- Certified Class B or A Bridge inspector would be an asset.
- In-depth knowledge and application of Alberta Bridge Inspection and Maintenance practices would be an asset.
- Familiarity with other engineering disciplines related to bridge engineering, such as structural design, materials and construction would be an asset.
- Familiarity with Information Technology (IT) processes and data management techniques would be an asset
- Strong MS excel spreadsheet, MS access database and computer programming skills would be an asset.

Salary
$3,044.75 to $4,215.69 bi-weekly ($79,467 - $110,029/year).

Hybrid Policy:
There may be an opportunity to participate in an interim hybrid work schedule (per Alberta Public Service policy) of up to two days working from your home office and three days in the office. This can be discussed with your manager upon hire.
