Role Responsibilities

Are you an audit professional looking for new challenge and want to make a difference by improving risk management in the public sector? We currently have an exciting opportunity in Ministry Audit Services in our Corporate Finance and Accountability division.

Operating as a member of the Ministry Audit Services team, and reporting to the Audit Supervisor, the Auditor will possess the skills necessary to conduct independent assessments on the Ministry’s risk management, governance, financial, operational, and internal control processes to determine if they are operating effectively.  The Auditor must bring developed knowledge and experience to plan and conduct audit projects in accordance with professional auditing standards.

 

The main responsibilities of the position are: 

  • Risk analysis, and audit planning through the identification of priorities based on risk to the Ministry/ Divisions/ Branches/ Program Areas.
  • Planning, conducting, documenting, reporting on audit engagements based on establish standards.
  • Communicating with audit clients and management.
  • Ensuring audit engagements are conducted effectively, efficiently and in a timely manner.


To be successful in this role, you will possess:  

  • Knowledge of internal auditing and accounting standards, principles and best practices; plus, knowledge in several of the following area: internal control practices, risk analysis, organizational theory, management concepts, finance, economics, and information technology.
  • Experience working with government or enterprise financial and management information systems.
  • Communication (verbal & written), relationship development, creative problem solving, and analytical skills.
  • Integrity, superior professional judgement, and leadership ability.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • University graduation in a related field (Business/ Commerce/ Accounting/ Finance) and eligible for enrollment in a recognized accounting program leading to an accounting designation such as Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA), plus two years of auditing experience; OR
  • Equivalent as described below. 


Equivalency: An equivalent combination of education (Business/ Commerce/ Accounting/ Finance) and experience provided the candidate is enrolled and actively pursuing a recognized accounting designation such as CPA. 


A Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) designation or active enrollment in the CIA program would be considered an asset.

Notes

Hours of Work: 36.25 hours per week, Monday – Friday. 

Minimal travel may be required (i.e. less than 25%).
