Role
Reporting to the Deputy Minister of Children and Family Services (CFS), the Assistant Deputy Minister (ADM), Youth and Preventive Family Services, offers strategic leadership and direction for prevention and early intervention, prevention of family and sexual violence and abuse, as well as support to young adults who are transitioning out of the child intervention system. The ADM provides effective oversight of practices, supports, and services through an integrated, evidence-informed, and culturally sensitive approach in serving Alberta’s children, youth, and families.

Core duties include developing policies and legislation and fostering collaboration across ministries to strengthen both provincial and community capacity in these critical areas. This collaborative approach ensures alignment, strengthens system integration, and supports the effective implementation of priority initiatives.
The ADM oversees grant programs that support communities in strengthening early intervention and family and sexual violence prevention and intervention, as well as direct funding for program delivery to over 2,500 young adults in Alberta. As the division’s executive leader for prevention of family and sexual violence, the ADM represents the Ministry as an ex-officio member of the Premier’s Council on Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, and 2S+, championing cross-sector partnerships and advocacy.
