Role
Reporting to the Deputy Minister of Municipal Affairs, the Assistant Deputy Minister Municipal Assessment and Grants provides strategic leadership and direction for division staff responsible for Grants and Education Property Tax, as well as Assessment Services. Overseeing a team of professionals and significant fiscal resources, you will establish a strong framework for financial accountability and responsible stewardship. Through effective leadership and coaching, you will empower a seasoned, high‑performing senior management team to deliver on business plan objectives, organizational mandates, and priorities.
With a focus on collaboration and systems coordination, you will lead the administration of the property tax assessment system and the delivery of key funding initiatives to strengthen the municipal sector and enhance long-term sustainability. Your team assesses the value of all designated industrial property in Alberta for property taxation purposes, develops property assessment standards and guidelines, and delivers the Local Government Fiscal Framework and other grant programs to support infrastructure needs, regional service delivery, and other municipal priorities. You will also be responsible for undertaking a multi-year review of Alberta’s regulated property assessment system.
Qualifications
A respected and influential leader, you bring extensive executive‑level experience and a strong understanding of municipal governance. Your background demonstrates depth in policy development, complex program delivery, and the ability to build and sustain productive, strategic relationships. Your strengths in leadership, systems thinking, and innovative problem‑solving will enable you to work effectively across diverse stakeholder groups to design programs and approaches that respond to evolving needs. Knowledge of government structure and decision‑making, legislative frameworks, grant management and accountability processes, and policy development mechanisms will be considered a strong asset.
A related post‑secondary degree is preferred.
Salary
$7,043.73 - $9,244.09 bi-weekly ($183,841.35 - $241,270.75 annually)
