Role

The Assistant Deputy Minister (ADM), Financial Sector Regulation and Policy plays a vital leadership role in shaping the policies and regulatory frameworks that govern Alberta’s financial institutions, insurance industry, and public and private pension systems. In fulfilling the distinct roles of ADM and Superintendent of Insurance, Pensions and Financial Institutions, this executive position leads a senior management team responsible for a wide range of areas, including insurance policy and regulation, financial institutions oversight, pension governance, and financial services operations. Building and maintaining strong relationships with key stakeholders - ranging from business partners to senior officials in other governments and Alberta entities – the ADM ensures regulations are balanced, effective, and supportive of economic activity. Open, consultative engagement with clients and stakeholders is central to delivering high-quality service and driving continuous improvement in business processes.

 

In addition to overseeing the regulation and supervision of major financial entities, the ADM also leads innovative initiatives including the Financial Services Concierge, which helps new and expanding financial services companies establish operations in Alberta, and administering the province’s regulatory sandbox to support fintech innovation. Further, this position leads the development and implementation of the Care-First Auto Insurance System and regulatory framework, including stakeholder consultation to enable industry transition and develop consumer support and dispute resolution functions.

 

 

Qualifications

Your background includes extensive related executive management experience and solid understanding of the pension, insurance and/or financial institution sectors. We’re looking for a strategic leader with a strong track record in developing and implementing complex policies and regulations, managing multifaceted programs and diverse teams, and driving impactful projects. The ideal candidate brings deep experience in policy development, stakeholder engagement, and navigating government priorities with political acumen. They are skilled in strategic planning, financial oversight, and fostering innovation, with a commitment to building high-performing teams and mentoring future leaders. Related post-secondary education is preferred.

 

 

Salary

$6,403.39 - $8,403.71 bi-weekly ($167,128 - $219,336 annually)
