Role Responsibilities

Reporting to the Manager, Application Services, this position provides the applications development, maintenance and enhancement support to complex custom systems, both in a primary and backup role. This position undertakes application maintenance and enhancement projects individually, and as a team member.

 

This position provides technical consulting with other team members and client staff as appropriate, project leadership of small to medium sized projects and full range of system and customer support services (e.g. system design, development, testing and implementation of new systems as well as maintenance and enhancements of existing applications and client training as required).  


Responsibilities:
Some of the responsibilities of this position include:

  • System design for the development, enhancements, and maintenance of the applications to ensure the system design meets business requirements. Specific projects may be undertaken independently, or as a member of a team.
  • Systems Analysis for the development, enhancement and maintenance of the applications, or any impact from changes on interfaced systems, to attain clarity on business requirements to ensure that business needs are well understood. Specific projects may be undertaken independently, or as a member of a team.
  • Construction activities for the maintenance and enhancement of the applications to implement the required changes. 
  • Provide production operation and support tasks to ensure the smooth and efficient operation of the applications. 
  • Provide services to the clients based on developing and maintaining a working knowledge of the clients business to help the clients perform their business functions. 
  • Continue to learn and expand technical expertise in the tools and products used to support the applications so that the clients receive the most up to date and efficient system possible. 
  • Provide technical support and guidance to team members to contribute to a cohesive and effective team.  

 

To be successful in this position, you will demonstrate:

  • Knowledge of detailed and complex business functions, processes and rules associated with the supported application. 
  • Analytical problem solving abilities to analyze technical, complex systems requirements and implement optimized solutions to address client needs and system requirements. 
  • Interpersonal skills coupled with the ability to communicate effectively with staff with varying degrees of systems expertise, in clarifying and addressing program/system requirements. 
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment. 
  • High level of organizational skills, required to simultaneously coordinate multiple projects with tight timelines.
  • Knowledge of the organizational structure. 
  • Detailed knowledge of the data and its relationships so that appropriate database scans and customized reports can be generated for senior management. 
  • Understanding of general business processes within the Department.

Qualifications

Requirements:

  • University degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or a related field. 
  • 2 years of related experience in: 
    • Application design and change management procedures. 
    • Programming principles, techniques, practices, logic and database design. 
    • Formal application lifecycle development methodology knowledge
    • Software may include: C#, Java, Visual Studio .Net, MSSQL, Oracle, .Net Framework, MVC, ASP.Net, Windows Operating System, UNIX, Solaris,  Microsoft Office software, Microsoft Project, Lotus Notes, PowerBuilder, Sybase, Shell Scripting

 

Equivalencies:  Equivalencies will be considered: 

  • A related two-year diploma in computer technology or a related discipline from a recognized postsecondary institution and four years related experience; or 
  • A related one-year certificate from a recognized post-secondary institution and five years related experience.      

 

Assets: 

  • Solid understanding of database principles, practice, design, configuration.
  • Experience with application design and change management procedures.
  • Expertise in Service setup, configuration, and patching. 
  • Experience in Windows Operating System and Microsoft Office software.
  • Experience with Windows Server including security configuration, security configuration and IIS configuration.
  • Experience in developing and debugging code in HTML, HTML5, VBA Script, and JavaScript is an asset.
  • Experience in developing and modifying code in C#, and MS SQL is an asset.
  • Expertise to develop in ASP.NET using the Model View Controller (MVC) architecture with Entity Framework may be required.
