The Alberta Crown Prosecution Service (ACPS) prosecutes persons charged with Criminal Code, Youth Criminal Justice Act, and provincial statute offences. The ACPS promotes safe communities by vigorously prosecuting cases involving serious and violent crime and working with individuals and organizations in the community to identify and implement improved and alternative approaches to the administration of criminal justice.
The Business Strategist (BS) position resides within the Strategy and Innovation Unit of the Operations and Strategic Support Office (OSSO) of ACPS. OSSO coordinates and collaborates across the division, the ministry, and beyond to ensure prosecutors always have their best day in court, and that the prosecution service as a whole is strategically positioned to achieve just outcomes through fair, fearless, and independent prosecutions.

As a Business Strategist with the Alberta Crown Prosecution Service (ACPS), you will turn justice system data into actionable insights that improve access to justice, strengthen prosecution services, and inform decision-making at senior and executive levels. This role is ideal for a senior data analyst or strategist with experience in law, justice, or public-sector environments who can translate complex information into clear, evidence-based recommendations.
Your key responsibilities are:
• Leading and coordinating justice-focused research, evaluation, and performance measurement initiatives to support an effective prosecution service.
• Compiling, reviewing, evaluating, and analyzing large and complex datasets to identify trends, measure outcomes, and inform policy and operational decisions.
• Developing Power BI dashboards, reports, and visualizations that clearly communicate findings to senior leadership.
• Presenting data-driven insights and recommendations to executive and senior leadership in a clear, concise, and actionable manner.
• Collaborating with justice partners, ministry teams, and external stakeholders to support cross-system analysis and strategic alignment.
• Developing performance indicators, metrics, and reporting tools to evaluate program effectiveness and support continuous improvement.

Qualifications
University degree in Criminology, Sociology, Psychology or in a related field with strong research and statistical focus supplemented by a minimum of four years of progressively responsible related experience in a data analyst or research-focused role.
Equivalency: Directly related experience or education considered on the basis of one year of experience for one year of education, or one year of education for one year of experience.
Required:
• Demonstrated experience leading research, evaluation, or data analysis projects involving multiple stakeholders.
• Strong experience analyzing data and developing analytical reports and dashboards (Power BI required).
• Experience compiling and presenting data and findings to senior or executive leadership.
• Experience drafting research reports, briefing notes, and analytical summaries to support decision-making.
• Exceptional oral and written communication skills.
Preference will be given to individuals with:
• Experience working as a senior data analyst or strategist within a justice, legal, or public-sector environment.
• Strong SQL programming skills and experience querying relational databases.
• Experience producing technical reports, summary reports, and executive briefings that combine textual and graphical data.
• A high degree of computer literacy.
The following are considered an asset:
• Strong knowledge of the justice system in Alberta and Canada.
• Master’s degree in the above relatable fields.
• Experience using Justice Online Information Network (JOIN).
• Experience using Statistical Analysis System (SAS) Statistical Package for the Social Science (SPSS).
• Experience with Criminal eFile and Prosecutor Information System Manager (PRISM).
• Power BI.

This competition will be used to fill two permanent positions in Edmonton.
The hours of work are 36.25 hours weekly.
