The Alberta Crown Prosecution Service (ACPS) prosecutes persons charged with Criminal Code, Youth Criminal Justice Act, and provincial statute offences. The ACPS promotes safe communities by vigorously prosecuting cases involving serious and violent crime and working with individuals and organizations in the community to identify and implement improved and alternative approaches to the administration of criminal justice.

 

The Business Strategist (BS) position resides within the Strategy and Innovation Unit of the Operations and Strategic Support Office (OSSO) of ACPS.  OSSO coordinates and collaborates across the division, the ministry, and beyond to ensure prosecutors always have their best day in court, and that the prosecution service as a whole is strategically positioned to achieve just outcomes through fair, fearless, and independent prosecutions.

As a Business Strategist with the Alberta Crown Prosecution Service (ACPS), you will turn data and research into insights that improve access to justice, strengthen prosecution services, and inform decision-making at the highest levels.

 

Your key responsibilities are:

 

  • Lead and coordinate criminal justice-focused research, evaluation, and performance measurement projects to support an effective prosecution service.
  • Analyze and interpret data to identify trends, inform policy decisions, and evaluate outcomes within Alberta’s criminal justice system.
  • Collaborate with justice partners, ministry teams, and external stakeholders to strengthen cross-system understanding and align strategic goals.
  • Develop meaningful performance indicators and reporting tools to evaluate and improve program effectiveness.
  • Present complex research findings in clear, actionable ways to inform senior leaders and policy decisions.

 

The Ideal candidate will bring:

 

  • Experience in justice, legal, or law enforcement analytics, program evaluation, or operational strategy.
  • Strong ability to translate research into practical recommendations that inform justice policy and operations.
  • Proficiency with data visualization or analysis tools (e.g., Power BI, R, SQL) to transform data into actionable insights.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects and deliver complex reports to diverse stakeholders.
  • Exceptional communication skills and the ability to convey research clearly to non-technical audiences.

Qualifications

University degree in Criminology, Sociology, Psychology or in a related field with strong research and statistical focus supplemented by a minimum of four years of progressively responsible related experience in business strategist type role is required.

 

Equivalency: Directly related experience or education considered on the basis of one year of experience for one year of education or one year of education for one year of experience.

 

Required

 

  • Demonstrated experience drafting research or evaluation reports, coordinating input from multiple stakeholders.
  • Proven experience leading or managing major research, evaluation, or planning projects.
  • Strong analytical ability with experience using data visualization tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau, or equivalent).
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills, including the ability to present complex findings clearly to non-technical audiences.

 

Preferred Assets

 

  • Previous experience working with justice system partners or within a criminal justice, legal, or public policy environment.
  • Experience analyzing data and producing reports or briefings to inform evidence-based decision-making.
  • High degree of computer literacy with exposure to tools such as SQL, R, or other analytical software.
  • Demonstrated interest in improving justice system processes, performance, and outcomes through research and analysis.

Notes

  • This competition will be used to fill two permanent positions in Edmonton.
  • The hours of work is 36.25 hours weekly.
