About the Role
As an Administrative Assistant, you’ll be at the heart of our Tax Services Branch, supporting both the Client and Legal Services and Information Services teams. You’ll play a key role in coordinating the dispute resolution process, managing administrative systems, and ensuring smooth operations across the branch.
This is more than just an administrative role — it’s a chance to be the first point of contact for tax objections and waiver requests, providing vital support to both internal and external stakeholders, while helping to uphold the integrity of Alberta’s tax programs.
What You’ll Do
• Coordinate Dispute Resolution: Manage waiver and objection files using the DRATS system, ensuring accuracy and compliance with legislation.
• Support Branch Operations: Arrange meetings, coordinate travel, manage time reporting, and assist with publications and policy updates.
• System Maintenance: Provide technical support for DRATS, assist with testing and upgrades, and maintain user access.
• Records Management: Maintain SharePoint and M Drive content, archive documents, and support file retrieval processes.
• Stakeholder Engagement: Communicate with internal teams and external clients, resolving inquiries and escalating complex issues as needed.

Agility: The programs that TRA administers are constantly changing as legislation is added and new programs are introduced. In addition, the way in which TRA is administering its programs is also transitioning as we strive to be more efficient. As a result, the Administrative Assistant will be required to adapt to an ever-changing environment of program administration.
Build Collaborative Environment: The Tax Services Group is a collaborative team that requires group thinking and internal discussions due to the highly technical nature of the work. The Administrative Assistant will have to liaise with the senior members of the team in order to ensure that the dispute resolution process is administered in accordance with the applicable legislation. This will require a collaborative approach.
Creative Problem Solving: The Administrative Assistant will encounter technical issues with DRATS and will be required to trouble shoot the issues as they arise. They will also deal with external stakeholders on dispute resolution issues and will have to think on their feet in order to determine the best course of action in order to solve the problem.
Drive for Results: Striving for reliability, accuracy and quality, focusing on key priorities, collaborating effectively, finding solutions and meeting deadlines are different examples of how this skill/level is essential for the position.

Qualifications
Education and Experience Requirements:
This position requires a high school diploma and three years of experience including experience with diverse software like MS Office (Excel, Word), Adobe Acrobat, ability to navigate internet sites and learn internal inventory software systems (DRATS). Able to organize and track significant volume of incoming files and respond to outstanding items in a timely manner.
Equivalencies may be considered:
• 1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or
• 1 year of experience for 1 year of education
Assets:
• Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks effectively in a dynamic environment.
• Proven experience handling numerous incoming and outgoing requests with professionalism, demonstrating tact, diplomacy, and discretion in all interactions.
