As well as enabling access to public lands for recreational and commercial purposes while prioritizing conservation. Role Responsibilities

Step into a pivotal leadership role at the Centre of Alberta’s wildfire response. As the Logistics Supervisor within the Alberta Wildfire Coordination Centre (AWCC), you will play a critical part in safeguarding communities, supporting frontline wildfire operations, and ensuring personnel and resources are deployed efficiently and effectively. As the AWCC Logistics Supervisor you will oversee the coordination of personnel, equipment, and logistical support for wildfire presuppression and suppression efforts across Alberta. Working closely with 10 Forest Areas, external agencies, and a seasonal team of Logistics and Support staff, this role ensures the effective and efficient delivery of Alberta’s wildfire response. You will play a key role in resource coordination, operational data management, staff supervision, and continuous improvement of wildfire management processes. This position stands out for its significant responsibility, fast-paced environment, and essential contribution to protecting Alberta’s forests, communities, and natural resources.

 

Your key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

 

  • Processing resource requests from 10 Fire Centers and coordinating personnel and equipment movement.
  • Presenting outstanding resource needs during daily operational conference calls.
  • Briefing exported staff on expectations, logistics, deployment details, and reporting structures.
  • Coordinating accommodation, meals, vehicles, transportation, and invoice accuracy for wildfire personnel.
  • Screening, interviewing, hiring, and training seasonal Logistics and Support staff.
  • Monitoring and directing staff workloads, schedules, and performance evaluations.
  • Establishing and maintaining procedures for data auditing, resource request closure, staffing logs, and time certificate accuracy.
  • Supporting the Provincial Duty Officer with timely, accurate, and relevant wildfire information.
  • Compiling daily reports, annual summaries, statistical data, and presentations.
  • Training staff to handle 310-FIRE calls and ensure detailed call logs and detection messages are completed.
  • Coordinating provincial working groups, documenting decisions, and supporting task teams.
  • Testing wildfire-specific software and recommending improvements to enhance operational efficiency.
  • Navigating high-stress, high-volume situations with creativity, organization, and strong problem-solving.

Qualifications

Experience and Education:
A high school diploma and 3 years related experience.

 

Directly related education and or experience may be considered on a one-for-one basis.

 

Requirements:

 

  • Valid class 5 Drivers License or equivalent.
  • Leadership and supervisory experience.
  • Contract and vendor management experience.

 

Assets:

 

  • Demonstrated time-management and organizational skills for coordinating and managing tasks and action requests across multiple teams.
  • Familiarity with wildfire management practices, procedures and/or regulations.
  • Experience working in HCM (Human Capital Management) software or tools, such as FIRES.
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail for data review and report compilation.
  • Experience coordinating and supporting working groups or committees, such as a Wildfire Dispatcher Working Group or Logistics Working group, including records management.

Notes

This position is a permanent, full-time role with the standard weekly work hours of 36.25, Monday to Friday. Working overtime will be a requirement due to the nature of wildfire and can be in the evenings and weekends.
