Through safe and caring schools for all students, Alberta’s government is making life better by investing in education – one of the most important investments we can make in our future. Alberta Teaching Profession Commission (ATPC)

The Education Act provides the statutory authority for the Alberta Teaching Profession Commission and the appointment of an arm's length Commissioner to oversee teacher and teacher leader conduct and competency complaints for the profession. This process applies to all teacher and teacher leaders under the Education Act (the Act).

The Alberta Teaching Profession Commission oversees a new model, which came into force on January 1, 2023, for teacher and teacher leader disciplinary matters, which brought Alberta in line with best practices used in comparable provinces and other regulated professions. The Alberta Teaching Profession Commission protects students and enhances accountability and transparency for disciplinary matters as a regulated profession.
