The Ministry of Mental Health and Addiction is responsible for providing leadership and strategic direction, including the development, implementation, monitoring, and compliance to policy, legislation, and standards, for addiction and mental health services, as well as proactive monitoring of substance use and mental health data to support system planning.
The Ministry works with service providers and community partners to design and enhance a coordinated community-based addiction and mental health care system, leveraging policy and practice innovations and research and evaluation to enable the best possible outcomes for Albertans.
The Ministry works closely with other cross-ministry partners, external organizations, other Canadian provinces, and the Government of Canada to plan addiction and mental health service delivery.

Role Responsibilities

Do you have the skills and personal aptitude to conduct investigations and inspections of service providers, follow up on incidents and balance enforcement measures with education? We are looking for a highly motivated professional with exceptional interpersonal skills to take on the role of a Regulatory Officer.
Reporting to the Manager, Compliance and Monitoring, you will be part of the regulatory team responsible for licensing of service providers and monitoring compliance to the Mental Health Services Protection Act (MHSPA), the Mental Health Services Protection Regulation (MHSPR) and all associated standards.
The main function involves inspecting and investigating service providers of complex addiction and mental health services including residential addiction treatment services and social withdrawal management services. You are also responsible for the management of new applicant files, complaints, and incidents reported by all service provider locations across the province.
You will provide leadership in education, quality assurance, risk management practices both internally, and externally to ensure the safety of patients and clients at in scope locations.

Qualifications
University degree in a related field (Public Safety, Justice, Law enforcement, Addiction and Mental Health) and two (2) years of related experience. Direct experience working in addiction or mental health settings will be considered an asset.
Experience is required in:
- Areas such as addiction, mental health, trauma informed care, risk management, incident reporting, quality assurance and continuous improvement.
- Inspection/investigation, or auditing to standards and/or working with accreditation bodies, applicable acts, regulations, and standards.
Preference will be given to candidates with:
- Mental health and addiction experience; and
- Significant in-depth, critical thinking, investigative and analytical skills.
Equivalencies maybe considered - directly related education or experience on the basis of:
- 1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or
- 1 year of experience for 1 year of education.

- 8:15 am to 4:30 pm (Monday to Friday)
There is currently one permanent full-time position available.
The preferred location for this position is in Edmonton, however, a candidate from another location in relative proximity to Edmonton may be considered.

A valid driver’s license and a reliable vehicle is required as travel throughout the Province of Alberta is mandatory.
The successful candidate must be able to sit for extended periods of time at a desk reviewing paperwork or in a car driving, they must also be able to stand and walk for extended periods of time while on inspection/investigation.
As part of the interview process, shortlisted candidates may be required to complete a written test.
