Communications and Public Engagement (CPE) is the Government of Alberta’s full-service communications, public relations and marketing department. Its mandate is to enhance communications between Albertans and the Government of Alberta.
CPE’s expert staff provide specialized services across the spectrum of communications including writing, social media, media relations, event coordination, issues management, crisis communications, digital communications, advertising, marketing, graphic design, public engagement and translation services.

Role Responsibilities
Leveraging your superior organizational and project management skills, the Communications Advisor, Issues and Intake Coordinator, ensures coordination of work originating through CPE’s project intake system in the planning and coordination branch within strategic communications services at CPE.
As the Communications Advisor, Issues and Intake Coordinator, you know how to jump to the pump to respond to urgent requests, triaging them to branch management, project managers or service providers to ensure ministry communications are consistent, effective and delivered on time.
You are the primary contact for ministry communications staff to connect with branch services delivery staff (e.g. graphic designers, research team, social media coordinators) and you work with a high level of independence to support client service delivery. You’re also responsible and accountable for ensuring the executive director and branch leadership are apprised of issues, options and impacts. You ensure projects are properly tracked and assigned within the branch and provide reports for senior leadership.
Using your excellent client service and problem-solving abilities, you will oversee branch-level project coordination and inputs. Your responsibilities will also include:
- Evaluating and prioritizing complex client requests , ensuring timely responses while coordinating with branch teams.
- Reviewing and triaging branch requests by reviewing work plans, strategies and priorities.
- Proactively monitoring, assessing and reporting on the daily intake and output of project-related activities, including flagging any significant developments, changes or risks.
- Ensuring the executive director is aware of and briefed on emerging requests, proposed solutions and actions to resolve requests. You’ll work with branch staff to resolve any issues prior to reaching a level requiring executive director attention and/or intervention as appropriate.
- Facilitating actions, responses and solutions by bringing together a complete branch activity tracking system to help inform information sharing, branch resource allocation and issues identification and management.

Qualifications
University graduation in a related field to the position, ideally in communications/public relations/marketing with marketing communications project management experience supplemented by 4 years progressively responsible experience.
Equivalencies: Directly related education or experience considered on the basis of:
- 1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or
- 1 year of experience for 1 year of education
Assets:
- Certification in Project Management Professional (PMP)
- Proven knowledge and experience in marketing communications project management tools and methodologies
- Ability to work effectively under tight timelines to address rapidly changing or conflicting needs and manage multiple tasks and deadlines at once
- Strong leadership and relationship building skills
- Detail-oriented and able to maintain a high level of ownership and accuracy on all work activities
- Working knowledge of communications, marketing and advertising industry
- Issues management and strong problem solving and conflict resolution skills
- Strong political acumen
