Role Responsibilities

Take your leadership, planning, and engagement skills to the next level as you apply your advanced knowledge of the child intervention system and practice in our dynamic Senior Child Intervention (CI) Practitioner role. We are searching for confident, competent, mindful, and outcome-focused professionals to join our incredible team!
 
As a Senior Child Intervention (CI) Practitioner, you will be engaged in the implementation of the organizational goals and an active participant in decision-making and collaboration amongst colleagues, Child Intervention families, programs, stakeholders, and leadership. The Senior Child Intervention Practitioner is responsible for maintaining enhanced complex intervention cases and safety planning for assessment and ongoing case planning, by managing services and using practice principles to meet the unmet needs of vulnerable children, youth, and families within timelines specified by legislation. 
   
The Senior Child Intervention Practitioner is considered an expert in all competency areas of the field of Child Intervention and applies extensive theoretical knowledge and regional/provincial program expertise to lead in the field of practice, enhancing the lives of children, youth and their families. This position will provide support to other CI Practitioners through mentoring and supporting the organizational goals of Children and Family Services. 
 
As a Senior Child Intervention Practitioner, you must demonstrate proficiency in the application of the Signs of Safety tools and in its philosophy merged with the Practice Strategies. You will have a lead role, with minimal supervision, in managing complex cases such as joint police investigations involving physical and sexual abuse, or other complex child intervention cases. This role requires active participation in decision-making and collaboration amongst colleagues, CI families, programs, stakeholders, and leadership.

Qualifications

To be considered for this position, you must have: 

  • A Bachelor of Social Work or Social Work Diploma and 1 year of related experience; or an equivalency as described below. 
  • The successful candidate must have been Delegated within the last 24 months under the Child, Youth and Family Enhancement Act in Alberta and related legislations and must have the related skills, abilities, knowledge and experience to be delegated. Also, there is an expectation for this position to provide on-call/after hours services on a regular basis as part of their delegated duties under the CYFEA. 

 

Equivalencies:

  • A related university degree (BA Child Studies/Child & Youth Care, BA Education, Bachelor of Health Sciences, Bachelor of Human Services, BA/BSc Psychology, BA Sociology, Bachelor of Community Rehab, BSc. Family Studies/Human Ecology, BA Early Child Development) and 3 years of related experience; or
  • A related diploma (Addictions/Counselling, Child and Youth Care, Human Services, Criminal Justice) and 4 years of related experience; or
  • Master of Social Work and some related experience; or
  • Related certificate and 5 years of related experience. 

 

Related Experience Includes:
Case management and planning in a child intervention setting; crisis intervention and protection work; foster and kinship care; family preservation and family support; counseling youth and families; knowledge of community connections and socially inclusive environments; as well as experience and understanding of Indigenous peoples, various cultures, community connections, and socially inclusive environments. 

 

Senior CI Practitioners must also demonstrate effective and concise written communication skills, using professional and inclusive vocabulary. Reports and written notes may be shared with senior leadership in the Ministry. 

 

Preferred Experience: 

  • At least 3 years of direct child intervention experience (direct experience with Child Intervention Legislation, Regulations and Policy; Safety Planning; Signs of Safety and the CIP Framework Principles).  
  • Experience working with Indigenous communities, building rapport with Band Consults, and other key stakeholders in First Nations Communities.

Edmonton Region:

  • Includes Edmonton, Fort Saskatchewan, Spruce Grove, St. Albert, Sherwood Park, Stony Plain, Leduc, Enoch First Nation, and Alexander First Nation. 

 

Central Region:

  • Includes Lloydminster, Wainwright, Camrose, Wetaskiwin, Drayton Valley, Rocky Mountain House, Red Deer, Stettler, Drumheller, and Olds. 

 

Calgary Region:

Travel and Vehicle Requirements:
Travel will be required in the Senior Child Intervention Practitioner role; therefore, final candidates for this position will be asked to provide a current 5-year Commercial Driver Abstract. Employees will be required to use their own vehicles when government fleet vehicles are not available. 
 
Employees must have a valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle that is suitable to the requirements of this position.
