Hidden Valley Ski Resort is located in Cypress Hills Provincial Park, (also known as Cypress Hill Interprovincial Park). The Park spans the Southeast corner of Alberta and the Southwest corner of Saskatchewan. The unique landscape of the area contrasts the surrounding prairie landscapes, making it an exciting destination for winter recreation opportunities.
Cypress Hills Provincial Park (CHPP) is home to Hidden Valley Ski Resort (HV) as well as a diverse range of Cross Country Ski Trails. The Ski Resort is located on the Alberta side of the Park, 10 minutes from the town site of Elkwater, AB and 40 min from Medicine Hat, AB. Role
Do you enjoy winter outdoor work? Are you interested in supporting the snowmaking program or the skill hill lift operations at the Hidden Valley Ski Resort in Southern Alberta? We are looking to hire Snowmakers and Hills Operations Staff for the 2022-2023 ski and snowboard season.
As a Snowmaker, your duties will include, but are not limited to:
- Safe operation of equipment such as snowmobiles, ATV’s, UTV’s and high-pressure water and air lines
- Handling a variety of snowmaking equipment
As a Lift Operator within the Hills Operations role, your duties will include but are not limited to:
- Ensuring excellent guest service
- Safe operation of ski hill lifts including quad chair, magic carpet, handle tow and T-bar, as well as safe loading and unloading of guests
- Maintaining lift area including ramps, mazes and buildings
- Crowd control and ticket checking
- Assist with snow removal and de-icing walkways and ramps
- Assist in set-up and cleanup of ski hill facilities
- May be required to assist in other departments as needed
- This position primarily works outdoors in variable winter weather conditions and cold temperatures.

Qualifications
Education:
- Some high school education required
Assets:
- Experience operating and maintaining equipment, including snowmaking equipment, as well as general ski hill experience
- Knowledge of park facilities/services, especially Hidden Valley Ski Resort or at least familiarity with ski hill operations
- Mechanical skills to assist with maintaining lifts or equipment
- Good judgment and ability to work well as part of a team
- Excellent communication skills

Salary
Based on a 40 hour work week, $19.60 - $23.57 per hour
Weekend and shift premiums are paid as follows:
- Evening Shift Differential $2.75/hr
- Night Shift Differential $5.00/hr
- Weekend Premium $3.25/hr
Wage employees receive 11.2% in addition to regular wage earnings in lieu of benefits and vacation leave.
- 5.2 percent of regular wage earnings instead of paid holidays.
- 6 percent of regular wage earnings instead of annual vacation pay.
Notes
- Shifts are 8 hours a day, up to 40 hours a week.
- Candidates must be willing to work weekends and holidays, varying start dates from mid-November, 2022 until March 31, 2023, pending end of ski season and operational needs.
- Multiple positions are available.
- Various low cost accommodations are available for rent in Elkwater.
- There is no public transportation to the Ski Resort, You must have reliable transportation to and from work. The Ski Resort is located about 10 min from Elkwater and about 40 min from Medicine Hat.
