Cypress Hills Interprovincial Park: The Cypress Hills District is located 65km South of Medicine Hat and covers approximately 200 sq. km of provincial park. The district includes Red Rock Coulee, Bullshead Reservoir, Michelle Reservoir and Milk River Natural Area. The focal point is the Elkwater town site with 300 cottages, 11 campgrounds,5 group camps and front and backcountry comfort camping.

Role
Parks Division is seeking a highly motivated, well-organized, responsible Equipment Operator. This position shall be based out of the Cypress Hills Provincial Park in Elkwater, Alberta. This individual is part of a team accountable for providing operational support to the municipal services and extraordinary recreational offerings in the southeast. The Equipment Operator will report to the Facilities and Maintenance Coordinator. The Equipment Operator primarily works out of the Maintenance Shop.
Responsibility highlights include:
As part of the maintenance team, you will strive to maintain high standards to ensure quality customer service and safety is provided at all times.
Specific responsibilities include:
- Operating Heavy Equipment such as a grader, skid steers, backhoes, loaders, fork lifts, garbage trucks, vacuum trucks, lift trucks and other heavy equipment as required
- Hauling equipment on trailers to various work sites
- Performing routine and preventative maintenance on equipment and infrastructure such as campgrounds, trail systems, day use sites, and buildings
- Performing varied services related to the upgrading of facilities and construction of new facilities
- Working with both Park employees and with private contractors on Alberta Parks infrastructure improvement projects
- Familiarity with and practicing all pertinent Occupational Health & Safety (OH&S) policies, procedures and protocols
- Supervising a team of seasonal employees
- Overseeing fleet maintenance for a large and varied inventory of equipment and vehicles
Qualifications
Education and Experience Requirements
- Some high school education plus one year experience in the operation, preventative maintenance and routine servicing of heavy construction and/or agricultural and/or commercial transport vehicles and/or specialized construction equipment related to the position assignment
Additional Requirements
- Valid Class 3 Driver's License
Assets:
- Demonstrated experience with automotive repairs
- Class 1 License with Air Brakes Certification
- Mechanically inclined; good working knowledge in the operation, maintenance and heavy equipment, hand tools and power tools
- Trades certifications such as Heavy Equipment Operator; Mechanics
- Picker Truck Operator Certification
- Standard First Aid Certification
- Defensive Driving Training
- Good physical stamina for lifting; comfortable working in remote locations outdoors, and in inclement weather.
- Experience working with GIS, Avenza, or other spatial software
- Some knowledge and experience in contracting and procurement procedures and policies, with the ability to award and oversee contracts for consultant services
- Some computer and administrative skills
In addition to the technical skills and abilities, to be successful in this role you will need excellent communication, organizational and teamwork skills. You will show leadership skills to take initiative and help train others as needed.

Salary
$2,345.50 to $2,445.34 bi-weekly ($60,983 - $63,578/year)

Terms of Employment
- This is a full-time, 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday position with occasional weekend work.
