Communications Advisors deliver communications services to Minister and Deputy Minister offices, and other ministry clients. They support awareness of ministry priorities and programs, both by working independently and in collaboration with more experienced colleagues (Senior Communications Advisors, Assistant Directors, and Directors) on complex or sensitive files.

Candidates who are successful in the selection process will be placed in a Talent Pool. The Talent Pool will be used to create an eligibility list of qualified candidates to fill upcoming opportunities. • Developing and implementing communications plans.
  • Researching, writing, and editing a variety of products such as communications plans, speeches, key messages, media responses and digital content.

  • Leveraging social media and digital platforms effectively.
  • Using data and metrics for planning and evaluating communications projects.
  • Supporting cross-government communication initiatives.
  • Applying creativity and innovation to tackle projects and solve problems.

As a Communications Advisor, you’ll need to understand the goals and priorities of the Government of Alberta and how they align with ministry deliverables and stakeholder needs. Proven relationship-building skills are essential for developing networks and becoming a trusted advisor in areas such as issues management, communications planning, and media event planning. As the “doer” on your team, you jump in where needed, make sure timelines are on track, and use your attention to detail to ensure material is consistent and accurate.

A strong drive for results will empower you to deliver high-quality, strategic plans and products that engage target audiences.
