Role Responsibilities
The Partnerships Coordinator plays a key role in supporting collaboration among non profit organizations, First Nation communities, recreational leaseholders, commercial and tourism partners, and other multi stakeholder groups within the Kananaskis Region. The position enhances stewardship, sustainable use, and visitor experience across Alberta Parks by fostering meaningful relationships, reducing barriers to collaboration, and enabling partners to contribute to shared outcomes.
The role leads the development of partnership frameworks, supports staff engagement with partner organizations, coordinates the review and authorization of partnership initiatives, and promotes inclusion, accessibility, and reconciliation focused engagement with Indigenous communities. Success in this role requires strong facilitation skills, the ability to build trust, and a commitment to advancing parks based volunteerism, partnership programs, and multi stakeholder collaboration.
Key Responsibilities include:
- Leading the development and implementation of an operational framework for effective partner engagement.
- Building and maintaining productive relationships with internal and external partners, including non profits, First Nation communities, recreational and commercial partners, and tourism organizations.
- Supporting stewardship activities, partnership programs, and volunteer driven initiatives that align with Alberta Parks’ mandate.
- Supporting collaboration, inclusion, accessibility, and reconciliation through training, community engagement, and culturally aware practices.
- Contributing to strategic and operational priorities, including reporting, committee participation, and emergency response support.
- Promoting collaborative engagement and meaningful partner recognition across the region.

Qualifications
University degree in a related field (Public Administration, Parks, Outdoor Recreation, Education, Business Administration, Public Policy, Communications, Local Government Administration, Environmental Studies, Political Science) plus 4 years progressively responsible related experience in areas such as issues management, executive and council support, stakeholder relations, communications, legislative analysis, governance coordination, program administration, or project management.
Equivalencies will be considered.
Equivalency: Directly related education or experience considered on the basis of:
- 1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or
- 1 year of experience for 1 year education.
Note: A valid Class 5 driver`s license is required. This position requires weekly travel within the Kananaskis region, occasional overnight travel within the province, and the ability to work evenings or weekends as needed.
Candidates should demonstrate strong knowledge and experience in the following areas:
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to synthesize complex information for diverse audiences.
- Knowledge of Alberta Parks legislation, policies, and planning frameworks, including the Alberta Parks Act, Societies Act, Plan for Parks, and the Inclusion Strategy.
- Understanding of public participation, communications strategies, and community based social marketing.
- Competency in computer applications, including word processing, graphics, presentations, and database management.
- Ability to build strong working relationships with staff, partners, and external stakeholders.
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment, meet timelines, and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Qualifications (Continued)
Assets:
- Formal training in community engagement or public participation, such as training through the International Association of Public Participation (IAP2).
- Experience developing or supporting partnership agreements, such as MOUs, service agreements, or cooperating agreements.
- Experience supporting inclusion and accessibility initiatives, adaptive recreation programs, or culturally informed community engagement.
- Experience working with Indigenous communities, Indigenous knowledge holders, or Indigenous engagement initiatives.
- Familiarity with volunteer recognition programs, event coordination, or community based stewardship activities.
- Experience with interpretation and application of government or ministerial policies relevant to parks operations.
- Experience with print production, writing, editing, or use of brand standards (e.g., Alberta Parks Brand Manual).

This is a full-time permanent opportunity in Canmore or Calgary.
This position works Monday to Friday, 8:15 AM-4:30 PM, 36.25 hours a week.
A written assessment will be conducted as part of the interview process.
