Please note: It is anticipated that this position will transition to the new Alberta Sheriffs Police Service at a future date. Thus, this position will initially be filled in a civilian capacity and is expected to transition to a sworn police officer role upon establishment of the Alberta Sheriffs Police Service.
Role Responsibilities
Reporting to the Inspector, Recruitment and Engagement, the Staff Sergeant, Recruitment provides leadership and oversight for ASPS Recruitment operations. This position supervises operational personnel, coordinates daily activities and resources, manages performance and compliance, and ensures effective service delivery in accordance with legislation, Provincial Policing Standards, and ASPS policies. The role supports operational readiness, personnel development, and the continued growth of ASPS as an independent Crown corporation.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and supervise Sergeants and operational personnel within the Recruitment section.
- Coordinate daily operations, staffing, workload distribution, and resource deployment.
- Monitor operational performance, service quality, and compliance with policies and procedures.
- Conduct performance management, coaching, and professional development activities.
- Provide operational direction and decision-making support during complex situations.
- Manage reporting, documentation, and accountability requirements.
- Coordinate with internal units, Human Resources, and external partners as required.
- Support scheduling, resource allocation, and budget administration activities.
- Communicate operational priorities, updates, and organizational information to staff.
- Maintain operational readiness and promote professional standards and organizational values.

Qualifications
A university degree in Human Resources, Criminology, Criminal Justice, Police Studies, Sociology, Psychology, Public Safety, or other related fields, plus six (7) years of experience in human resources, recruitment, or assessment/investigative role within a law enforcement environment and supervision.
Equivalency: Directly related education or experience considered on the basis of:
- one year of experience for one year of education.
Candidates must be eligible for appointment as a Police Officer in the Province of Alberta in accordance with the Police Act (Alberta).
Requirements

- Successful applicants must provide proof of qualifications and maintain fitness for duty.
- Valid Class 5 Alberta Driver’s License or equivalent.
- Knowledge of police officer authorities and legislative requirements.
Assets
- Knowledge of ASPS policies and operational procedures.
- Experience with progressive discipline and employee performance management.
- Experience with budget management and resource allocation.
- Experience leading operational teams and coordinating resources in a policing environment.

Notes
This position works Monday to Friday- 8:15am to 4:30pm
- Successful candidate must maintain mandatory training and recertification, including use-of-force qualifications, in accordance with Provincial Policing Standards and ASPS policy.
