The Energy Transition Division leads policy development for Alberta’s energy transition, tackling economic and policy barriers to new energy investments. The division strategically engages with stakeholders, including the energy and minerals industry, the Federal Government, and other provinces, to support Alberta's goal of reducing emissions and achieving net-zero by 2050. Key responsibilities include providing secretariat and strategic support to negotiation tables, sub-tables, and internal committees, facilitating discussions on policy priorities and timelines to achieve a carbon-neutral economy and economic prosperity by 2050. The division is also responsible for nuclear policy and implementing the critical minerals strategy and action plan.
The Business Relationships and Implementation (BRI) branch is central to Alberta's Energy transition, fostering relationships with businesses to encourage investment in emerging energy technologies and facilitate the implementation of innovative solutions that drive economic growth and environmental sustainability. BRI collaborates with various government departments and agencies to establish the necessary conditions for the advancement and commercialization of these new technologies and energy solutions.
Role Responsibilities
The Business Relationships and Implementation (BRI) team is currently seeking an agile and driven Senior Business Analyst to manage and support key initiatives advancing policy development around emerging resources including critical minerals and nuclear leveraging expert level knowledge of business intelligence and analysis.
Reporting to the Manager, Business Relationships and Implementation, the Senior Business Analyst is responsible for the following:
- Data Management and Analysis: Lead data management by developing and maintaining of BRI’s internal systems(e.g., Microsoft Access, SharePoint), analyze and organize energy sector information for strategic insights, and communicate findings effectively through dynamic data visualizations and information products for diverse partners to support strategic decision making.
- Stakeholder Engagement Support: Contribute to Alberta's energy transition by supporting strategic engagement with energy stakeholders such as subject matter experts across Alberta Energy and Minerals, other departments, and agencies. facilitating innovative energy solutions ensuring timely information exchange and follow-up.
- Issue Analysis and Advisory: Assess and prioritize issues, conduct thorough research, coordinate information, and render accurate advice to Branch Leadership on existing and emerging issues.
- Briefing & Reporting: Prepare reports, recommendations, briefing materials, and make presentations to internal and/or external stakeholders for information and/or decisions on emerging energy trends and opportunities. Synthesize and translate critical information for policy and informational use.
To be effective, the Senior Business Analyst must employ a broad systems thinking and problem-solving perspective to answering questions and briefing leadership about Alberta's changing energy community. Functioning as part of a highly collaborative and small team, this position will provide support to a variety of activities applying their knowledge of data analysis and communication techniques.

Qualifications
Required:
University graduation in a related field such as Data Analytics, Computer Science, Engineering, Economics, Business, Law, International relations, Public Administration, Public Policy, Environmental Science, etc., plus a minimum of four (4) years of progressively responsible related experience. Related experience may include in data base management, data visualization and reporting, research and analysis, stakeholder engagement, technical writing and briefing, issues analysis and solution development, and project management.
Equivalency:
Related education or experience considered on the basis of:
- 1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or
- 1 year of experience for 1 year of education
Assets:
The following are considered assets for the position:
- Industry experience: Proven experience in the energy and minerals sector or related government bodies, demonstrating a strong understanding of provincial, national, and international energy transition issues and trends to inform decision-making.
- Policy Development and Review Expertise: Experience interpreting and implementing legislation, regulations, and policies related to energy transition, and related topics (e.g. Mines and Minerals Act, Energy Transition and Climate Policy, and all Acts and regulations applicable to responsible energy development and environmental protection across the GOA. etc.) to provide feasible recommendations to Management and executive leadership.
- Public sector and Inter-governmental relations experience: Significant experience working in government and managing interactions such as exchange of information and resources across different levels of government and ministries specifically at executive level..
- Technical Skills: Significant experience in data base management, data visualization and reporting, research and analysis, technical writing and briefing, issues analysis, and project management/coordination.
