Role Responsibilities

Reporting to the Provincial Watercourse Crossing Program Coordinator, this position will be responsible for leading the development and/or participating in the development of capital plans for watercourse remediation across priority watersheds throughout the province while ensuring consistency with current legislative and policy frameworks to advance, complete or implement Department’s priorities for fisheries recovery and aquatic habitat conservation. The Provincial Watercourse Crossing Capital Planner also provides strategic recommendations and advice, based on theoretical knowledge, research and experience.

 

The intent of the Watercourse Crossing Program (WCP) is to improve management of watercourse crossings at a watershed scale throughout the lifecycle of the crossing, including approval, maintenance, reporting, compliance, and reclamation. This improved management will protect and restore fisheries habitat through effective stream crossing practices, based on ecological risk, providing flexibility to crossing owners while facilitating a change in regulatory approach within the mandates of Alberta Forestry and Parks, the Alberta Energy Regulator (AER) and the Department of Fisheries and Oceans (DFO).

Qualifications

Required:

  • A completed university degree in a related field such as Environmental Science or Water Resource Management.
  • Minimum four years of related experience.

 

Equivalencies may be considered: Additional related education considered in lieu of experience, one year of experience for one year of education.

 

Assets

  • Field and and technical experience in aquatic science, hydrology, and/or water resource management.
  • Project management experience.
  • Experience working with large contracts or grants.

Notes

This competition is for 1 full-time, temporary 5-month position located in Calgary.  

 

Monday – Friday, 7.25 hours per day / 36.25 hours per week.
