Role Responsibilities
Are you a tech-savvy problem solver with a passion for the environment? We’re on the lookout for a dynamic geospatial professional to take on a one-of-a-kind role that directly contributes to the sustainable management of Alberta’s natural resources.
As a key member of the Provincial Geospatial Centre (PGC), reporting to the Geospatial Unit Lead, South, you’ll be at the forefront of creating and managing spatial data, crafting custom cartographic products, and responding to geospatial requests that support both regional and provincial priorities. Your work will help drive informed decision-making across departments and high-impact government programs, making a real difference in how Alberta’s public lands and resources are managed for generations to come.
This role blends technical expertise with creativity and collaboration. You’ll apply your skills in GIS, cartography, geoprocessing, and data management to deliver timely, accurate, and meaningful insights. Whether working independently or as part of a team, you’ll thrive in a fast-paced environment where your voice matters and your ideas can spark innovation.
Your responsibilities would include:
- Providing data management for internal government clients, ensuring all parties have current/common information to assist with sound resource management decision making.
- Constructing digital/hardcopy products for analysis, planning, presentation, or litigation all in support of departmental priorities.
- Maintaining and upholding the understanding of GIS technology within the client/user community to ensure the up-to-date and efficient application of GIS resources.
- Providing insight/guidance into project flow and possible avenues for completion to assist clients with decision making.

Qualifications
Requirements:
- A two-year technical diploma in Geomatics, GIS, or a related field focused on natural resources or environmental science.
- Minimum Two (2) years of related experience in geospatial technologies or natural resource management.
Equivalency: Directly related education or experience considered on the basis of:
- 1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or
- 1 year of experience for 1 year of education.
Assets:
- Demonstrated technical expertise in geomatics, Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and tools like ArcGIS Desktop, ArcGIS Pro, and Portal environments.
- Ability to streamline GIS processes through automation.
- Experience working with aerial or satellite imagery for analysis or mapping.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, GPS/GNSS software, and web-based GIS platforms.

This is a full-time, temporary position based in Calgary. The standard work schedule is Monday to Friday, from 8:15 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., totaling 36.25 hours per week.
