At TEC, we’re looking for a GIS Applications Specialist to develop cutting-edge GIS solutions that improve safety, efficiency, and decision-making in our transportation networks. As a GIS Applications Specialist, you will develop, maintain, and enhance GIS applications and databases to support TEC’s operations. You’ll work closely with internal teams, external partners, and industry experts to ensure our GIS solutions align with evolving business needs. This role combines technical expertise with strategic problem-solving, allowing you to modernize legacy systems, support data-driven decision-making, and contribute to Alberta’s transportation future.
Your key responsibilities include:
- Developing and maintaining GIS applications that support TEC’s policy, planning, engineering, maintenance, and programming efforts.
- Collaborating with subject matter experts to determine GIS application requirements and provide user-focused solutions.
- Modernizing legacy GIS systems using advanced tools and technologies.
- Managing GIS databases, ensuring data accuracy, and integrating relevant datasets.
- Providing GIS training and technical support to internal stakeholders.
- Publishing GIS datasets and ensuring accessibility through platforms such as ArcGIS Portal and ArcGIS Online.
- Implementing innovative GIS solutions and staying up to date on emerging technologies.
- Creating maps, dashboards, and other geospatial products to support decision-making.
- Supporting consultants and external partners by defining data requirements and facilitating data sharing.

Qualifications
Required:
- A related university degree (e.g., GIS), supplemented by at least four (4) years of related experience. Equivalencies may be considered.
- Experience in GIS database management and ESRI application development.
Assets:
- Knowledge of linear referencing systems (LRS).
- Practical experience with ESRI applications such as Fieldmaps and Survey 123.
- Practical experience with Spatial Database Engine (SDE) and Structured Query Language (SQL).
- Project management experience with application development projects.
Equivalencies are:
- A related two-year diploma and a minimum of six (6) years of related experience; a related one-year certificate and a minimum of seven (7) years of related experience; or a minimum of eight (8) years of related experience in lieu of formal education.

Additional Position Details:
- This position is a permanent, full-time role with the standard weekly work hours of 36.25, Monday to Friday (8:15 am – 4:30 pm).
