Role Responsibilities
Reporting to the Team Lead Facilities, this position is responsible for maintaining Tier 3 enterprise data centers and service that support the GoA shared Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) environment. These Government of Alberta (GoA) IT Facilities range from Tier 3 datacenters (NCC Data Centre, Millbourne Data Centre, John J. Bowlen Building) to 90+ remote Shared Data Facilities (SDF), and 1000+ network closets around the province of Alberta.
These facilities support the GoA ICT Infrastructure, the GoA applications and services. The GoA ICT environment encompasses 30,000+ GoA users, across 500+ locations, utilizing 15,000+ pieces of IT equipment, located in 7+ datacenters across Canada supporting 1500+ GoA Applications, 190+ identified as critical public services.
Work performed will utilize IT Incident, Problem, Change, Project, Service and Capacity Management principles to achieve innovative solutions to a variety of complex problems. This position will work with and receive guidance from senior analysts within the Technical Services unit. Communication with stakeholders and co-workers will be essential in ensuring that project deliverables meet client expectation.
This position will use its diverse IT expertise to operate independently on assigned work; this position is a subject matter expert in one or more areas, must have a class 5 driver’s license. must be able to lift 50 lbs and climb a ladder and must get a security clearance check.
Responsibilities:
Some of your responsibilities in this position will include:
- Providing information technology development, maintenance and support services to clients.
- Provide technical support for various applications by recommending changes or enhancements for applicable information technology services/products to the Team Lead. Monitoring various items such as user problems or issues, and performing on-call rotational activities.
- Providing system reporting development and support.
- Assisting with project management processes.
- Updating and developing information technology systems and programs.

Qualifications
- University graduation in Computer Science, Information Technology or a related discipline.
- Two (2) years of related experience in Data center facility management and monitoring data centre infrastructure.
- A valid driver’s license to be able to visit multiple locations across Alberta for site inspections and maintenance activities.
- Must be able to lift 50lbs.
- Knowledge of IBM ATL.
Equivalency: Equivalencies will be considered:
- A related two-year diploma in computer technology or a related discipline from a recognized post-secondary institution and four (4) years related experience; or
- A related one-year certificate from a recognized post-secondary institution and five (5) years related experience.
Assets:
- Strong foundational knowledge of computer science principles and methodologies, encompassing areas such as software development, IT infrastructure, programming, networking, mainframe technologies, and systems management.
- Proficient in both computer software and hardware, with expertise in troubleshooting and support.
- Adaptability to work across various platforms and Operating Systems.
- Formal training or certification in COBIT and ITIL frameworks.
- Solid understanding of the Government of Alberta’s IT policies and legislation, with the ability to apply them effectively to relevant assignments.
- Proven experience with project management methodologies and related processes.
- Practical and theoretical knowledge of electrical systems and principles (Enterprise UPS and Generator).
- Demonstrated ability to build and maintain long-term stakeholder relationships, supported by strong interpersonal and networking skills.
- Data center facility management and monitoring data centre infrastructure (surveillance, power and environmental)
- Experience in management of Automated Tape Library systems.
- Building Management System (BMS) experience.
- Fire Suppression system and safety training.
- Experience with Ethernet and Fiber Cable Management.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment, follow direction, and meet tight deadlines.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to clearly explain technical concepts, engage with stakeholders, and provide expert IT guidance.
