Role
The Executive Director (ED), Lands Delivery South leads the delivery of client-service oriented programs within the southern portion of the province, including regional delivery of the Ministry’s regulatory authorization programs, specifically the Public Land Management Program; Rangeland Management Program; Recreation Program; and Environmental Education Program.
The position leads the regulatory operations and management of all public lands in Southern Alberta and will lead and manage a team of over 100 subject matter experts across southern Alberta. Though the direction of the management team, the ED, Lands Delivery South is accountable for all lands-related functions and programs in the region being integrated, coordinated, and compliant with relevant legislation, policies, and standards to achieve business plan goals. Included in this position’s role is the provision of strategic advice to the Executive Team, particularly in relation to programs, initiatives, and issues specific to the region. The ED also has critical responsibilities to identify and manage competing land use and related conflicts that could result on the land base and participate in land related policy development, implementation, and planning at the regional, sub-regional, and local levels as requested to determine land-use priorities and management approaches. This requires collaboration with other divisions within Forestry and Parks, other ministries, agencies, and other levels of government. The ED is also relied upon to balance competing interests when working with stakeholders to enhance sustainable natural resource development and environmental management.
The ED of Lands Delivery works collaboratively with senior representatives of the Lands Operations Division, the Ministry, other ministries, agencies, and governments, as well as community, industry, and environmental stakeholder organizations to ensure that regional policies and programs reflect Ministry and Government of Alberta direction and move towards achieving desired social, environmental, and economic outcomes for the benefit of Albertans. As a member of the Ministry Executive Director Team, this position provides advice and input to the Executive Team and Minister and contributes to the Ministry governance process through involvement in governance teams and other initiatives.
Reporting to the Assistant Deputy Minister (ADM) Lands Division, the ED functions within the parameters of an applicable Government and Ministry legislation, regulations, policies, directives, and procedures, and must be an expert in applying land management tools and policies in a complex and contentious environment.
Qualifications
As ED, you bring significant and extensive senior management experience to this role, from within a large and complex organization, and also have broad knowledge of policy, decision-making, and legislative authority. You are a tested leader, with demonstrated experience coaching, mentoring, and developing staff within a large and complex organization, and are also highly skilled at forming and maintaining positive relationships with partners and clients. You have previous success in overseeing business planning, operational planning and policy development, and performance management. You bring business acumen, an ability to solve highly complex interdisciplinary problems, and consistently achieve outcomes. Superior leadership, communication, and negotiation skills and a highly developed capacity to establish strong networks and linkages will be critical to your success. A related degree or a combination of education and experience considered an asset.
Salary
$5,234.94 - $6,879.68 bi-weekly ($136,631 - $179,552 annually)
