Role Responsibilities

Reporting to the AV Team Lead, the Audio-Visual (AV) Analyst plays a critical role in ensuring seamless, enterprise-level support for AV and video conferencing technologies within the Alberta Courts. In this position, you are responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and optimizing the technical infrastructure that supports courtroom proceedings across multiple judicial levels, ensuring that technology enhances rather than disrupts the legal process.

As an AV Analyst, you are an integral member of the Court Technology Services (CTS) team, providing direct, hands-on support for audio-visual control systems, real-time communication platforms, and digital courtroom technologies. The role requires expertise in AV system integration, programming, cybersecurity, networking, and cloud-based collaboration tools, enabling the delivery of high-quality, secure, and scalable AV solutions. 
Some duties and responsibilities include but not limited to are:

  • Technical Support & Troubleshooting: 
    Provide day-to-day operational support for courtroom audio-visual (AV) and video conferencing systems. 
    Diagnose and resolve issues related to AV equipment, ensuring minimal disruption to court proceedings. 
    Escalate complex technical issues to senior analysts or the AV Team Lead when necessary. 
    Assist in developing temporary workarounds for unresolved technical issues. 
     
  • AV System Maintenance & Equipment Management: 
    Perform routine maintenance and system health checks on installed AV equipment. 
    Track and document inventory of AV systems, assisting in equipment lifecycle management. 
    Coordinate with vendors for equipment servicing and repairs as required. 
    Schedule system updates and ensure firmware/software patches are applied regularly.

  • Networking & System Administration Support: 
    Assist with the configuration and maintenance of IP-based AV systems within enterprise networks. 
    Support basic network troubleshooting for AV devices, including firewall rules, VPN connectivity, and bandwidth utilization. 
    Collaborate with IT teams to integrate AV systems with cloud-based collaboration tools (e.g., Microsoft Teams, Zoom, Webex).

  • Programming & Scripting (Basic Automation): 
    Assist in writing simple scripts (Crestron, Extron, Biamp, or Cisco) to automate basic AV system processes. 
    Support API-based integrations between AV platforms and enterprise applications under senior analyst guidance.

  • Cybersecurity & Compliance Support: 
    Follow established security protocols for AV system encryption and access control. 
    Assist in ensuring AV technologies comply with Government of Alberta’s security policies. 
    Participate in periodic security audits for AV infrastructure.

  • Project Assistance & System Upgrades: 
    Support the installation, testing, and deployment of new AV equipment and technology. 
    Assist in system analysis and planning for future AV enhancements. 
    Participate in pilot testing of new AV features and provide feedback to the AV Team Lead.

  • Commissioning & Quality Assurance: 
    Assist in testing and validating new AV installations to ensure they meet operational requirements. 
    Work alongside senior analysts to verify contractor work and report inconsistencies in system performance.

  • Scheduling & Coordination: 
    Support the scheduling of courtroom AV technology, including special-purpose rooms and mobile AV solutions. 
    Work with internal stakeholders to ensure AV equipment is available and operational for court sessions.

  • Training & Documentation: 
    Provide basic training to court staff on the use and maintenance of AV systems. 
    Assist in updating and maintaining AV system manuals and technical documentation.

  • Cross-Team Support: 
    Offer supplementary technical support to the Desktop and Network teams as needed. 
    Collaborate with other IT teams to ensure AV systems align with broader IT infrastructure.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Two-year technical diploma in (Electronic Engineering, Audio Engineering) or related field plus two years experience in Broadcast, Audio Technician/Specialist, or work full time with an Audio/Visual company or related experience; or equivalent as described below.


Equivalency: Directly related education or experience considered on the basis of: 

  • 1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or 1 year of experience for 1 year of education
     

Assets & preferences:

  • Post secondary education in Electronics Engineering Technology or experience in related roles would be an asset.
  • ITIL V3 Foundation training/ certification would be an asset. 
  • Working knowledge of safe OH & S practices and procedures.
  •  Working Knowledge of Teams Admin Centre (M365/Azure Cloud), voice, Crestron, Dante, video and audio topologies and secure communication technologies and protocols.
