The Office of the Public Guardian and Trustee (OPGT) provides essential support for individuals that are not able to make personal or financial decisions. It offers guardianship and trusteeship services, administers estates, and manages benefits. OPGT also oversees capacity assessments, investigates complaints regarding decision-makers, and provides guidance on advance planning and personal directives. Role Responsibilities

Are you a strategic leader passionate about driving change, enhancing service delivery to vulnerable populations, and upholding the highest standards of fiduciary care for clients? The Public Trustee is seeking a director-level, Assistant Public Trustee, to lead Trust Administration in Calgary. This is a unique opportunity for a proven leader who excels in guiding teams through transformation, delivering exceptional client service, and modernizing operations to meet evolving needs.

As the Assistant Public Trustee, you will provide senior leadership to a dedicated team of frontline professionals, guiding them in administering and protecting the financial and physical assets of Represented Adults, minors, missing persons, and deceased estates. Your leadership will be essential in navigating complex financial and legal decisions while providing strategic oversight to mitigate fraud and risk, ensuring that robust internal controls and processes are in place to safeguard client assets. You will lead transformative change, particularly during the implementation of new IT systems, and collaborate closely with internal teams and key stakeholders to ensure services remain effective, efficient, and responsive to evolving needs.

Qualifications

Minimum Recruitment Standards: 

  • University graduation in business, finance, accounting, law or a related field, supplemented by seven (7) years progressively responsible leadership experience overseeing complex programs or services.
  • Related experience or education may be considered as an equivalency on a one for one basis.
  • This position requires experience leading teams through change, with a focus on service continuity and modernization. 
  • In addition, this position requires experience leading projects


Assets: 

  • Demonstrated experience leading a program requiring a strong focus on financial acumen and fiduciary care. 
  • Knowledge and experience in trust administration, wills, and/or estates area of law. 
  • Experience in providing services to vulnerable populations.
  • Excellent communication skills for collaborating with diverse stakeholders and leading change initiatives.

Hours of work: 36.25 hours per week, Monday – Friday
