The Ministry of Public Safety and Emergency Services has significant oversight and involvement in the public security and emergency services through its various divisions and operations. The department is responsible for the administration of law enforcement, correctional services, policing and police oversight and public safety. The Ministry supports crime prevention and restorative justice programs, as well as programs and services to support victims of crime, including those affected by domestic violence and human trafficking. The Ministry also coordinates large scale emergency and disaster prevention, mitigation, preparedness, response and recovery programs and initiatives.

Role Responsibilities

The Calgary Remand Centre is searching for motivated individuals and positive role models with cultural and community awareness for an Operational Services position. Reporting to the Stores or Loading Dock Supervisor, you will be responsible for secure handling of offender property, goods and money, and the purchase of transport tickets, you will also be responsible for timely distribution of inmate clothing to inmates or units. You will interact with inmates and correctional officers in the performance of your duties. 

Additionally, you may be responsible for operating a 5-ton truck, working in a loading dock/shipping environment, and assisting with fleet management, which includes facilitating general maintenance, tire changes, and detailing with local automotive shops. Some general mechanics experience is considered an asset, but not necessary.

Qualifications

High school diploma and at least one year of related experience such as stock keeping or working in a warehouse environment.

Equivalency:  One year of directly related experience for one year of directly related education, or one year of directly related education for one year of directly related experience.

The following will be considered as assets:

  • Customer service experience in an environment handling cash or personal property such as a bank, registry, or courthouse.
  • Previous Supervisory experience is considered an asset.
  • Direct contact with offenders and heavy lifting is required, must be able to lift up to 50lbs.

  • Hours of Work: 36.25 hours per week; Calgary Remand Centre operates on a 24 hour schedule, the ability to work days, afternoons and nights is required.

  • You will be eligible for a Correctional Institutional Salary Allowance for each day worked.
