Assisted Living and Social Services provides supports for seniors, families, and communities, and helps Albertans access disability services, financial supports, services for the homeless, Continuing Care and other social-based programs. The Ministry supports Albertans through a person-centered, integrated service delivery model that recognizes the unique circumstances, experiences and strengths of individuals and families.

Role Responsibilities

Disability Services (DS) provides case management, issues payments, manages contracts of many types and connects with Alberta Supports in relation to overlapping processes (e.g., intake). The organization addresses supports and services mandated under the Persons with Developmental Disabilities (PDD) and Family Support for Children with Disabilities (FSCD) Acts and Regulations to over 12,000 individuals, children and families in the province. The primary purpose of this position is to support the day-to-day casework, policy and/or administrative activities associated with PDD and FSCD. This positing will be used to hire for two separate positions, when applying, please indicate which position you are applying to: 


1.    Program support (PS1): requires basic knowledge of existing Disability Services (DS) legislation, regulations, policies and procedures. Tasks assigned to the program support position agument caseworker functions allowing Caseworkers to focus on individuals and families who most urgently require planning, response and DS funding to access services.

 

2.    Administrative support (AS2): encompasses a broad range of jobs involved in providing entry-level administrative, program and office support functions. The work assigned can be fulfilled by individuals with limited to no experience or program knowledge. The emphasis is on learning about the program areas, policies and regulations.

Qualifications

 

Minimum requirements (PS1)

 

Two-year diploma in a related field; no experience required; or equivalent as described below.
 Equivalency:  Directly related education or experience considered on the basis of: 1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or 1 year of experience for 1 year of education.

 

Preference for the program support position will be given to applicants with a focus in Social Work: 
•    A related degree in BA Child Studies/Child & Youth Care, BA Education, Bachelor of Health Sciences, Bachelor of Human Services, BA/BSc Psychology, BA Sociology, Bachelor of Community Rehab, BSc. Family Studies/Human Ecology, BA Early Child Development, Law Degree. 
•    A related diploma in Addictions/Counseling, Child and Youth Care, Human Services, or Criminal Justice. 

 


Minimum requirements (AS2)
High school diploma. 

 

Equivalency:  Directly related experience considered on the basis of one year of experience for one year of education.

 


Preference for the Administrative Support position will be given to those applicants with an administrative academic background including Business Certificate or Diploma programs, Financial management, and Office Administrative programs.

Hours of work:  08:15am-4:30pm

 

Position Locations: Calgary, Red Deer, Lethbridge, Medicine Hat, Camrose, Olds.


What we offer:
Wage (casual) employees receive 11.6% in addition to regular wage earnings in lieu of paid holidays and vacation leave. 

  • 5.6% of regular wage earnings instead of paid holidays
  • 6% of regular wage earnings instead of annual vacation pay.
