In addition to policy, protocol, communications and Cabinet functions, Executive Council includes Intergovernmental and International Relations, which develops strategies on issues of importance to Alberta and Canada - with its international partners, clients, and stakeholders – to address challenges and grow opportunities. Role Responsibilities

Do you enjoy working at the intersection of business needs, systems, process improvement, and data? This role offers the opportunity to support procurement systems and reporting that enable effective operations, oversight, and decision-making across the Government of Alberta.

The Business Analyst, Systems and Reporting supports the planning, analysis, and continuous improvement of procurement systems, processes, and reporting used by the Strategic Procurement Office. The role works closely with business areas, technical teams, and partners to ensure procurement tools and information are practical, reliable, and aligned with operational needs.

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Elicit, analyze, and document business requirements, process pain points, and improvement opportunities related to procurement systems and processes.
  • Support process mapping, impact analysis, and the design of practical, scalable solutions.
  • Translate business needs into clear requirements, documentation, and implementation inputs for technical and operational teams.
  • Support reporting requirements, data quality, dashboards, and operational insight.
  • Support business‑side activities for procurement systems such as Alberta Purchasing Connection (APC), SAP SCM, and related procurement tools.
  • Work with technical teams and vendors to clarify requirements, review solutions , and validate outcomes.
  • Support business testing activities, including scenario development, validation, issue tracking, and coordination with business users and technical partners. 
  • Contribute to the development and improvement of procurement reporting, dashboards, and data outputs used for operational oversight and decision‑making.
  • Engage stakeholders through meetings, workshops, and reviews to gather input, validate information, and support coordinated delivery.

Qualifications

A university degree in Business, Public Administration, Information Systems, Computer Science, or a related field, supplemented by a minimum of two (2) years of related experience in business analysis, systems analysis, process improvement, reporting; or equivalent as described below.

Equivalencies: (directly related education or experience considered on the basis of):

  • 1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or
  • 1 year of experience for 1 year of education.

Additional requirements include:

  • Experience analyzing and synthesizing complex information to support business or decision‑making.
  • Experience engaging with stakeholders to gather requirements, validate information, and support implementation.
  • Experience preparing written materials such as requirements documentation, process documentation, briefing materials, or reporting summaries.
  • Prepare and maintain requirements documentation, process materials, job aids, and related records to support consistent implementation and governance.
  • Experience working with data, reports, and dashboards to validate, interpret, and support business decision‑making.

The following are considered assets:

  • Experience supporting enterprise business systems, dashboards, or reporting environments.
  • Experience using reporting and analysis tools such as Power BI, Excel, or similar tools would be considered an asset.
  • Experience related to procurement operations or procurement‑enabled systems. 
  • Knowledge of public‑sector service, systems, or reporting environments.

Hours of Work: 8:15am-4:30pm, Monday to Friday (36.25 hours/week)
