Role Responsibilities

Do you excel in stakeholder engagement and thrive in fast-paced environments? If so, this role offers a unique opportunity to shape government strategic engagement on national and global stages.
As Manager of Strategic Engagement, you will provide expert strategic advice, leading intergovernmental and international relations while ensuring executive and ministerial engagements align with government technology and innovation priorities. Reporting to the Director of Strategic Services, you will collaborate with internal and external partners to shape and coordinate high-level engagement initiatives and missions that drive the department’s strategic direction to grow the Alberta’s technology and innovation ecosystem.
Your key responsibilities include:
- Coordinating federal, provincial, and territorial engagements to advance the department priorities and ensure strategic alignment.
- Providing expert recommendations on international engagement strategies.
- Developing and implementing a strategic engagement plan for Ministerial and Executive (Deputy Minister) missions.
- Advising on high-level international and intergovernmental engagements to ensure policy and protocol alignment.
- Leading mission planning services, including approvals, briefings, and logistics.
- Supervising and mentoring staff to create a high-performance, engaged workplace.
- Managing budgets, human resources, and workload distribution.
- Negotiating and building consensus with program areas to ensure alignment on the department’s strategic engagement activities.
- Establishing processes to prioritize initiatives, track progress, and mitigate challenges.

Qualifications
Required:
- A related university degree (e.g., Political Science, Public Policy, International Relations, etc.), supplemented by at least four (4) years of related experience. Equivalencies may be considered.
- Experience in intergovernmental and international engagement.
- Strong understanding of the relationship between policy, stakeholder engagement, and political environments.
- Proven experience leading and coordinating projects within complex and evolving environments.
- Demonstrated leadership experience in managing and mentoring staff.
Assets:
- Familiarity with technology and innovation trends, and their impact on government and industry.
- In-depth knowledge of government structure, operations, and decision-making processes.
Equivalencies are:
A related two-year diploma and a minimum of six (6) years of related experience; a related one-year certificate and a minimum of seven (7) years of related experience; or a minimum of eight (8) years of related experience in lieu of formal education.

Additional Position Details:
- This position is a permanent, full-time role with the standard weekly work hours of 36.25, Monday to Friday (8:15 am – 4:30 pm).
- While this position is eligible for remote work, the successful candidate must reside in Alberta to work remotely.
