Role Responsibilities

If you have experience developing and implementing communication strategies, managing media relations, creating engaging content, and have strong writing skills, you might be the ideal candidate.

This position is responsible for the overall image and promotion of the Royal Alberta Museum, both internally and externally. As the successful candidate, you will connect Albertans with RAM through marketing, media relations, and owned channels including social media, newsletters, and the website.

The roles and responsibilities of the position include but are not limited to:

 

  • Uses media relations to emphasize RAM’s presence as an active and valuable member of the community.
  • Writes and edits strategic communication materials (ie: news releases, key messages, Q&A’s) that are effective, consistent, and accessible.
  • Develops and implements communications strategies for internal and external audiences, including RAM’s social media channels, to share diverse stories, research, and news relating to the museum’s mandate.
  • Work with Museum colleagues to create high-performing content (web, blog, e-newsletter, social media) to drive brand awareness, web traffic, social media engagement, and media coverage.
  • Provides communications counsel and support to management and staff in various program areas and subject matter.
  • Supports marketing and communications stakeholder relations activities.

Qualifications

Requirements:
 

  • University degree in a related field such as Marketing, Communications, Journalism, Arts and Cultural Management supplemented with minimum of two years’ experience.
  • Knowledge and experience in the design and execution of marketing, communications, and/or public relations plans are required. 
  • Experience writing communications products and working with media are required. 


Assets:
 

  • Knowledge and experience in social media marketing or content marketing will be considered an asset.
  • Knowledge and experience with photography, videography, and video editing will be considered an asset.
  • Experience dealing with media in the Government of Alberta will be considered an asset.
  • Fluency in French will be considered an asset

Notes

This is a full-time permanent position located in Edmonton

Hours of work: 36.25 hours/week. Some evenings, weekends and statutory holidays may be required.
