The Ukrainian Cultural Heritage Village (UCHV) is an outdoor living history museum that that provides an interactive exploration of early Alberta settlement history by delivering true-to-life visitor experiences and educational programs based on the Ukrainian settlement experience. More than 35 historic buildings have been relocated from east central Alberta to the site to illustrate the 1892-1930 period. Costumed interpreters portray real people who once lived in the region, allowing visitor to travel back in time to learn about the region’s history, people and culture.
Role Responsibilities
As the Head, External Relations and Events, you will be responsible for activities pertaining to external relations, special events and volunteer resources at the Ukrainian Cultural Heritage Village (UCHV). This position requires someone who has effective communication skills, effective interpersonal and management skills, and proven skills in decision-making, problem solving and conflict resolution. Additionally, you will have effective planning and project management skills, as well the ability to cultivate collaborative relationships with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders.
Main Duties of the role include, but are not limited to:
- Networking and liaising with a variety of stakeholders (community organizations, heritage and tourism organizations, municipalities, and academic institutions);
- Marketing and communications (media relations, content creation on the site's website and social media platforms);
- Planning and implementing special events (including annual and one-time events, workshops, exhibits, and special projects) and coordinating the UCHV volunteer program.
- Supervision to the Group Bookings & Corporate Sales area at the UCHV, which is a key source of revenue with year-round bookings and sales.
These activities ensures that the UCHV can maintain and enhance positive relationships with its audiences and stakeholders, which contributes to visitation and revenue generation on an annual basis.
The Ukrainian Cultural Heritage Village is renowned for its extensive research and accurate portrayal of Ukrainian settlement in Alberta, particularly within east central Alberta. This position will ensure that content; programs and events align with this mandate.

Qualifications
University graduation and four years of related and progressively responsible experience where duties include public relations, media relations, marketing, event planning, etc. Postgraduate completion of a Master’s degree, related diploma or certificate is preferred.
Equivalencies will be considered on the basis of one year of education for one year of experience.
Requirements:
- Valid Alberta Driver's License is required.
The following knowledge or experiences are considered as assets:
- Minimum of one-year related experience in marketing, communications, or event planning.
- Extensive knowledge of themes preserved and presented at the Ukrainian Cultural Heritage Village.
- Working knowledge of Ukrainian culture and language an asset.
- Working knowledge of computer applications including MS Office and Adobe Photoshop.
- Working knowledge administering social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, etc.).
- Working knowledge of web-based marketing technology and content management software for maintaining websites.

This is a full-time temporary position located at the Ukrainian Cultural Heritage Village (located approximately 50 km east of Edmonton near Elk Island National Park).
Hours of work: 36.25 hours/week.
