The Training Academy (TA) promotes excellence through training and continual professional development by establishing training standards, and in partnership with stakeholders, facilitating the delivery of evidence-based curriculum. The TA is responsible for design, development and delivery of induction training programs to peace officers in Alberta.

In this position, you are responsible for a diverse portfolio that supports the application of best practice training methodologies in the development, design and delivery of high-quality training programs. This involves proactively developing and maintaining productive relationships and collaborative efforts within the Ministry and with partners to respond to evolving needs and addressing the complex challenges of delivering multiple training programs.

Duties and responsibilities include but not limited to:

  • Research and analysis of emerging learning and development strategies, activities, and processes to ensure the TA is well positioned to deliver high quality training programs/initiatives.
  • Leading partnerships with internal and external stakeholders to incorporate and address changes in program preferences.
  • Providing recommendations to refresh, reposition and maintain relevance of the training content to meet partner and stakeholder priorities.
  • Assessing technology, processes, and activities in application to current training programs and future possibilities to reflect changing needs, relevancy, and cost-effective options.
  • Providing expertise and pro-active consultation to TA senior leadership, business areas, external stakeholders, instructors, curriculum designers, and accreditation analysts on training initiatives.
  • Proactively developing and maintaining productive relationships with internal and external stakeholders and training providers and users to ensure the TA remains relevant, current and meets future learning preferences.
  • Leading working groups/committees and focus groups to assess course evaluations and input regarding curriculum modalities.
  • Promoting collaboration and positive relationships with stakeholder subject matter resources/experts and building commitment to reach desired results.
  • Comparing and contrasting different delivery methods, and principles of curriculum design and evaluation methodologies.

  • Knowledge of relevant acts, legislation and policies that guide training curriculum.
  • Demonstrated facilitation and communication abilities with highly developed interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
  • Proven ability in building effective working relationships and managing multiple, complex projects under tight timelines.
  • Strategic thinking and planning to develop, articulate and encourage commitment to new and adaptive processes and systems to design, develop, deliver and evaluate training and development programs.
  • Leading the development of a roadmap of responsive and flexible processes, frameworks and functionality to create and sustain a results-oriented and collaborative culture including developing and supporting of organizational training.
  • Identifying opportunities and championing a culture of partnering and adaptive responses to changing skills and behaviour requirements and changes.

Qualifications

Required:

  • A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in education or a related field; Adult Education, psychology, leadership, social work, social science, and 4 years of experience in training, learning and development. 

    Assets & preferences:
  • Working experience and application of leadership competencies.
  • At least one year of experience specific to curriculum design and adult learning.
  • Demonstrated experience to lead large scale projects, including producing challenging deliverables in tight timelines.
  • Related advanced degree such as education, psychology, leadership, social work, etc. and knowledge of the Training Academy’s mandate/role.
  • Preference will be given to those with experience working with vulnerable populations, as curriculum is developed to assist Peace Officers in collaboration with incarcerated individuals/vulnerable Albertans.
  • Working experience in supervising staff; acting roles will be considered.
  • Experience working in Law enforcement environment.

    Equivalencies will be considered on the basis of:
  • One year of education with one year of experience
  • One year of experience with one year of education

Notes

  • This is one full-time temporary – 1 year position located in Edmonton.
  • Hours of work will be Monday – Friday, 8:15am – 4:30pm.
  • Office Location: Training Academy, 1568 Hector Rd NW, Edmonton, AB T6R 2Z4.
  • Security Screening is required for successful candidate.
